Microsoft: Windows Phone Tango update for low-end handsets

0

The upcoming Tango for Windows Phone will be a minor update, Microsoft has announced.

At a seminar in Hong Kong on ‘The Next Generation of Development’ by MSDN, Microsoft said that Tango will be a stop-gap update to rope in more countries. As per the details made public in the seminar, Tango is mainly for developing countries that didn’t get Windows Phone officially, which includes India and China.

Microsoft will use Tango update on low-end handsets to offer more Bing services. Select Windows Phone handset partners will sell their low-end devices in India as well as in other developing countries.

We anticipate these low-end Windows Phone 7.x handsets to come with lower screen resolutions, and processors slower than 1 GHz. They would be affordable to the pocket.

According to Chinese blog ‘We Love Windows Phone’, the next major update to succeed Mango will be Apollo. Apparently, several countries including India and China will have to wait for Tango to arrive with the fresh breed of Windows Phone devices.

We previously reported that Windows Phone 7.x Tango devices will start shipping in the fourth quarter of 2011 from Compal. Hence, we expect the official announcement of these devices sometime in November or December this year in India as well as in other countries where Windows Phone hasn’t officially been launched.
