Opera gets updated for Android

0

Opera mobile for Android devices has just been updated and with this new update the developer of this browser has added more on the functionality front rather than just improving the look and feel of the web browser.

The new update upgrades the present Opera 11 mobile web browser to V11.1, which brings a highly optimised and brand new interface. A pinch to zoom feature and smoother panning capability has also been introduced with this update. Opera has now also included native social media integration with popular websites like Facebook and Twitter so users don’t need to login to websites or applications to post comments or content on social media.

Another addition to the kitty is the inclusion of an Opera Link feature that allows users to synchronize bookmarks and web browsing data among Opera browsers on different devices or platforms as well. Opera has also added the provision to download games and free apps from the Opera Mobile Store in Opera Mobile’s Speed Dial.

Users can update the application manually or through the Android marketplace application as well. They can alternatively visit the following link if they are first time users.

Samsung launches cheaper look alike of Galaxy SII

0

This new phone looks like Galaxy SII, but has slightly lower configuration, for instance, it has only a 5 camera (SII has 8 megapixel) though it records videos.

It sports a 4.2 inch Super Clear screen (WVGA) along with a 1 GHz (SII has 1.2) dual-core processor. The phone runs on 2.3 OS and other features include Wifi, GPS, FM Radio, 8 and card slot up to 32 GB.

Path: Social networking app comes to Android

0

Path, the social networking available for some months on iOS, has now been released on the Market as well. Those who are new to the news about Path, need to know that it created a buzz at the time of its launch because it was a social networking app, yet it restricted the number of contacts to just 50.

It was launched, by design, for the users who preferred to use a quieter social networking app. It has most of the social networking features that users look for in a mobile app, and users of both the versions &#151 Android and iPhone will be able to interact with one another with the app or the web version of the app.

Although Path has followed the predictable path of launching the iOS app first, and then following up with the Android app, the company doesn’t agree it has a bias towards the iOS. Path said in its blog post that its users will be able to, “Capture and share life’s moments through photos; stay connected to a small group of 50 close friends and family; and tag moments with people, places, and things; view friends’ moments.”

The blog post further says the users will also be able to, “Have intimate conversations around each moment with chat, know when your friends have seen your moments, and publish the occasional moment on Facebook for all of your Facebook friends to see.”

The move towards Android seems to be a smart one from the creators of Path as after some time of existence on the iOS platform, they need to increase their user base.

HP TouchPad buyers to get 50 GB cloud storage from Box.net

0

The buyers of HP’s new tablet, TouchPad will get 50 online storage from Box.net. The deal is expected to be announced along with the launch of TouchPad. The TouchPad buyers would be able to download the Box.net from the App Catalog Store from HP. The announcement is intended to serve as an incentive for the TouchPad buyers who may anyway be looking for a reason why shouldn’t they buy an iPad 2 instead?

The interest in industry has been increasing steadily, as is evident in the success of Dropbox after it was launched in 2008. Google already offers a full range of cloud based apps to the users including the Music beta service. The iCloud from Apple has just been announced and not launched yet, but is generating a lot of interest due to 5GB of free online storage offer to the users.

The offering from Box.net is a great deal for users, since they get 50 GB of data storage &#151 especially if they are anyway going to buy the TouchPad. Those who intended to go for Android, however, already have the option of going for Google’s cloud-based offering.

The 50 GB account roughly translates into about 50 thousand photos and documents. The TouchPad buyers are already aware they will be getting either the 16 GB or the 32 GB version, so the cloud storage option makes sense for them. Even good laptops used to come with only 50 GB or 60 GB hard discs only some years ago. Those who are already Box.net subscribers, will see their accounts have been automatically upgraded to 50 GB accounts when they buy their TouchPads.

The Box.net cloud-based storage service has several high profile customers to show off including MTV and Dell.

HTC Eternity with Windows Phone Mango update leaked

0

HTC is preparing to launch a new device after Microsoft will officially release the Windows Phone 7 Mango update in couple of weeks from now. German website HTC Inside stumbled into details of upcoming Windows Phone 7 based handset with massive 4.7 inch touchscreen. Packed with next generation and other hardware, we may get to see this Mango update loaded device later this year.

The HTC Eternity handset has a 4.7 inch WSVGA capacitive touchscreen display. Housing what appears to be an overclocked 1.5 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon MSM 8255 processor coupled with Adreno 205 graphics chip. Packing 16 on board storage, the Eternity handset has 512 MB RAM.

At the back, HTC has put an 8 megapixel camera with and capable of recording 720p HD video. In the front is 1.3 megapixel camera that is deemed to bring two-way video calling for the Windows Phone devices. Other features include Wi-Fi (802.11 b/g/n), 2.1+EDR, Gravity Sensor, eCompass, Digital audio with SRS Surround Sound, FM Radio and 3.5 mm audio port.

The first Windows Phone 7 device was available in India for a hefty price (above Rs 32,000 approx.). At this moment, India has only selected handsets running Windows Phone 7 and most of them are from HTC. To be honest, Windows Phone 7 hasn’t officially launched in India and it seems that the Mango update might bring a simultaneous arrival in India.

When the Windows Phone officially launches in India, we certainly hope to see new Mango update loaded handsets at the launch. But apparently large screen handsets may not be doing really well in India considering the physical demographics. However, it’s too early to decide.

Android’s answer to Instagram: PoolParty

0

A new mobile photo-sharing app is being tested by Google, which is called Pool Party. This is basically an Instagram rival from Google and it has been developed by the Slide team, which was bought by Google some time ago.

The news was first broken by TechCrunch, which shared some images of the app’s version as well.

The same team within Google had earlier come up with Disco, which was a group app. Pool Party is currently being beta tested, and users can gain entry through invite only. The app has some differences with Instagram which is mostly for individuals whereas Pool Party encourages group-sharing.
