Google Plus iOS app now for iPad, iPod Touch

0

Google has released yet another update for its social network Google+ or Google Plus to support the Apple iPad tablet and iPod Touch. Previously, Google Plus was usable only on iPhone devices running 4.0 or higher. Despite the new update there is no iPad specific Google+ App.

The new Google Plus app can be downloaded from the Apple App Store. To check the details visit here.

Google Plus has received a plethora of updates in the last month for both and iOS platforms. Obviously Android devices get the most exclusive features that may not work exactly the same on iOS devices due to the difference in platform.

However, the Google Plus App for iOS devices is only for iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS and iPhone so far.

With the new update rolled out, Google Plus App now supports iPod Touch and iPad as well. However, there are no special features for the iPad tablet to make the best of the bigger screen or even the front facing camera on iPad 2.

Probably a future update for Google Plus tablet might bring Hangout (group video chat) support.

Large numbers of users anticipate a faster, better and more robust mobile app for Google Plus on all mobile platforms besides Android and iOS. So far there is no hint or update on whether the Google Plus app will be available on Symbian, BlackBerry or Windows Phone platforms.

iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad users need to have an iOS 4.0 or higher update on their devices in order to use the new Google Plus app that also brings Huddle settings and Aggregated Circle notifications. Let’s hope that after iOS 5 is released, Google Plus also supports notifications.

Top three apps for Samsung Galaxy S2

0

Those who are thinking of buying a Samsung Galaxy S2 will find it one slick and alluring mobile. Samsung has tried to make the phone unique by preloading some extra apps on it.

Task manager

Android, by its very nature, is a multi-tasker, which is why the pre-loaded Task Manager comes handy to find out which apps are running in the background, and which apps need to be shut down to save battery life.

It is especially useful when some app has crashed or has stopped responding. Users just need to tap the “exit all” option to shut down all the apps.

Office

Most other smartphone owners find it difficult to open or edit MS Office documents, but that is not the case among Samsung Galaxy S owners. Due to the pre-loaded Polaris Office, Samsung Galaxy S owners find it extremely easy to open and edit Office documents.

Obviously, users cannot expect the same level of efficiency that they get with MS Office on desktops; but, that being said, people in a rush find Polaris Office extremely useful.

Samsung Smart View

The next app on the list is Samsung Smart View, which is specially crafted for Samsung Galaxy S users. With this app people can stream television content to their phones, thus using it as their second TV. With the help of this app the Samsung Galaxy S handset can also be used as an advanced remote control.

Foursquare updates for Windows Phone and BlackBerry

Foursquare has been updated simultaneously on Windows Phone and BlackBerry App World. The update is meant to fix some earlier bugs and improve the app’s overall performance.

With this, Foursquare version 2.4 is available at Windows Phone Marketplace while version 3.1.5 of the app is available for BlackBerry handsets.

Although the list of changes or improvements might not be big it is important to keep the application updated for stability of both, the program and the device.

Updated applications for Foursquare can be located at the application stores on devices, or users can follow a link to update the application.

Google updates YouTube app for Android

0

Google has rolled out a new update for the Android YouTube that allows creating a video playlist along with few features for better user experience.

In the new app, the user interface has been revamped for easy uploading of videos.

The new user interface pops up a menu that takes the user to an appropriate location to select the video for uploading. Once you have uploaded the video, you can also edit the title, description and the privacy of the video from the app itself.

Users can also create, edit and delete the video playlists on the go for later viewing purposes. Besides that there are the usual bug fixes and the performance improvements.

Available only for users running Android 2.2 Froyo or higher, the updated YouTube app can be downloaded from Android Market.

The YouTube App update can be downloaded from Android Market directly as well and it will take a while to be visible on the web version of the Android Market.

Every fourth active mobile subscriber is on Airtel

0

Airtel is bigger than the subscriber numbers reveal, it has one fourth of the active subscribers in the country. This has been revealed in the latest TRAI report of VLR (visitor location register) data, which tells the number of active subscriber.

At the second spot is Vodafone, which has moved Reliance Communication to number three spot, with 80.82 per cent active users and 19.23 per cent market share of active subscribers

Although RCom has managed to retain the number three spot, it has only 61.93 per cent active subscribers and a market share of 14.9 per cent.

Idea has the maximum percentage of active subscribers with 92.48 per cent subscribers of the total 95 million subscribers. Although this has not affected its ranking, the difference with RCom is merely 0.2 percent &#151 Idea has 14.7 per cent market share. If idea manages to grow the same as this month it will push Reliance to number 4 spot this month itself.

While Idea, Bharti Airtel and Vodafone gain market share when only active subscribers are considered, all other operators loose thanks to poor active subscriber share in total subscriber figures.

BSNL, at 5th spot, has done so with a very poor record with just 52.69 percent active subscriber; it has got only 8.3 percent market share if we only consider active subscribers.

Another poor show has been from the Tata Teleservices, which has just 48.02 per cent active subscribers. Tata has also managed to retain the 6th spot but with 7.34 per cent market share compared to 10.68 per cent as per total subscriber figures.

Aircel, at No 7, has 53.91 per cent active subscribers only. It has market share of 6.81 percent when total subscriber numbers are considered.

Uninor has done better than Aircel and Tata with 58.05 percent active subscribers but in total market share of active subscriber of 2.55 per cent as against 3.09 percent otherwise.

MTS is at 9th spot with 48.79 per cent active subscribers.

MTNL is in deep trouble with just 35.17 per cent active subscribers, this means that they have only 0.32 per cent market share. To make the matters worse for the company, it has registered a negative growth in total subscriber base.

According to last month figures, India has 594.77 million active subscribers as compared to the 840.28 million total subscribers.

0

Research In Motion (RIM) is set to launch a new BlackBerry handset with QNX operating system, according to a website . This new handset, codenamed BlackBerry Colt, will be the part of the five new smartphones that RIM is supposed to launch in coming times.

Preliminary details of the BlackBerry Colt smartphone indicate that the device will run a single core and will sport the new QNX operating system. This device is expected to be shown in the first quarter of 2012.

RIM acquired QNX Software Systems from Harman International last year. Earlier this year, RIM launched the BlackBerry PlayBook tablet powered by QNX operating system. The company also confirmed that in future QNX will replace the and that transition will take a while. This transition has been cited as the chief reason why PlayBook did not have any native email client.

The leaked image of the BlackBerry Colt shows a totally refreshed home screen which is entirely PlayBook style &#151 QNX probably. The display appears to be a touchscreen and slightly bigger than the usual BlackBerry devices. On the home screen lies the carousal of widgets that can be swiped on the either sides. At the bottom is another menu that shows four tabs &#151 All, Favorites, Media and Games. Each tab has a number of apps or shortcuts listed such as Photos, Music, Camera and World.

This image might be yet another placeholder (dummy/mockup) image for the upcoming devices. RIM’s engineering team is said to be testing the prototype of the BlackBerry Colt with single core processor on it. The hardware specifications may change and we hope that the Colt gets better processor and at least a front facing camera for video call.
