Bluetooth Review: True Blue Voice Universal Bluetooth Audio Transmitter

0

Pros

  • Battery Life
  • Sound quality and transmission range
  • Build quality
  • Cons

  • Looks
  • Starting with a brief history, Truebluevoice is a subsidiary of Vox Spectrum, which was established to serve countries like India and Sri Lanka. Well it started off as the authorised distributor for the brand Plantronics and later they have launched a couple of products under their own brand name.

The name does sound impressive for a accessory brand and considering the years of expertise these guys have invested in serving Plantronics, the expectations automatically become higher and are rightfully met also by the TBV-d5 Bluetooth transmitter.

The device’s looks and feels solid, something which is built to last longer. But overall the d5 is sleek, lightweight and a stronger device.

For wireless connectivity the D5 uses Bluetooth 2.1 with (Advanced 2 way data port) which is basically used to transmit stereo voice over Bluetooth.

To test the effectiveness and the efficiency we tried it with a stereo Bluetooth headset and as expected it played flawlessly from a distance of five meters with no source of interference. It performed well too when tested from a distance of five meters with a wall in between.

The company has claimed its effectiveness over an area of 10 meters and it did exceptionally well within that range, but things get jittery if a wall comes in between.

In a sentence, the D5 provides good connectivity and does the transmission job really well. The battery life is one commendable thing. Even with just 14 grams of weight, this device manages to go on for four to five days of normal usage.

To sum it all up, the TBV-D5 is an impressive Bluetooth transmitter. It has got ample range, great battery life, sturdy built quality and is shielded from mobile radiation as well.

So for a price of Rs 1,399 this device might sound like marginally overpriced but for the features and the performance people would easily settle for this. It makes a great buy for people who want to transmit audio to their stereo Bluetooth headset or speakers from players, TV, Radio or basically anything that has a 3.5 mm audio jack.

MTS to launch CDMA tablet soon

    0

In a bid to attract high end mobile users, MTS plans to launch tablets and ebook readers that will work on its CDMA network.

“In line with the new strategy we plan to introduce (and other) tablets in the next six months,” Amitesh Rao, director of brand and media, MTS, said while launching MTS’s first Android smartphone, the HTC Pulse.

However, he refused to elaborate further on the tablet.
While there are many GSM tablets, there are not many that run on CDMA. Let’s have a look at the alternatives in India which might come bundled with MTS connection.

    BlackBerry PlayBook

PlayBook, when it is launched, will mark the entry of BlackBerry into the tablet market. However, it will use only CDMA networks.

It will also introduce a new operating system called QNX.

The tablet has received rave reviews from journalists and developers who saw a demo version during the Consumer Electronics Show and Mobile World Congress earlier in the year.

    Apple iPad CDMA

A CDMA version of the famous Apple iPad is in the pipeline. Verizon, a CDMA operator in the USA, has already announced that it is working towards bringing CDMA iPads for customers though no timeline or price has been announced.

If MTS does manage to bring iPad to India it will be a huge sales boost for the company. iPad has been a trend setter worldwide with millions of units sold across continents. The GSM version of this tablet has already been launched in India.

    Samsung Galaxy Tab

Galaxy Tab is currently one of the most popular Android tablets in the market. There are no major competitors to it as most others have not been launched yet.

It has already sold more than a million units across the globe and has also found a lot of buyers in India.

A CDMA version has reportedly been spotted, and if the news is true, MTS will almost certainly be looking at bringing it to India. Galaxy Tab has already established a brand identity in India and Samsung has recorded decent sales of the device here.

    Motorola Stingray

It’s rumoured to be equipped with a 1.3 GHz and the latest Google Android 3.0 OS.

Motorola Stingray will carry a 10 inch screen, and on the network front it will reportedly work on CDMA Rev A, the same technology that MTS uses.

    Huawei

Chinese players ZTE and Huawei are strong in the CDMA space thanks to China Mobile being a CDMA operator. Although they don’t have CDMA tablets right now, it would not be hard for them to make one for MTS.

Huawei has Ideos 7 tablet which currently works on GSM and has been received well. Will there be a CDMA version? Why not? Huawei can be a good option as it will help MTS release lower cost tablets.

    Chinese tablets

There are so many Chinese companies making Android tablets but is hard to track them. These devices are mostly rip offs made by unknown brands. MTS can definitely look at this option, as it can rebrand some of these devices as its own. However, this move is likely to hurt the MTS brand if these devices do not work properly or are of low quality.

Chinese imports have already created a very bad name for the CDMA industry as most people started associating CDMA with the low end segment and most high end customers chose GSM, which resulted in very low ARPU for the CDMA industry.

With MTS trying to attract the premium segment the use of Chinese devices will not be looked upon as a wise move. However, on the cost front, these devices will be hard to beat and can work in small towns where Chinese mobile imports by Indian brands have really done wonders, changing the dynamics of the mobile industry.

    Evolution of mobile learning

    0

With devices such as smartphones and tablets making their way to every hand, mobile learning has also begun to spread its wings.

Conveying educational content through mobile phones, smartphones and PDAs (personal digital assistants) is known as mobile learning.

It is slightly different from e-learning, which aims to do the same but through the medium of laptops and computers. Hence, e-learning is location bound; while mobile learning allows one to attend lectures, read, and ask teachers questions from any where and at any time.

Today, students research and study online a lot. Thanks to the internet, they can study from multiple sources at the same time, such as from blogs and Twitter.

Duke University was probably the first to use mobile devices for educational purposes by allowing students to access class material and symposia through iTunes. Other institutions which use iTunes are MIT, Stanford and University of California. In 2008, Abilene Christian University (Texas, USA) also used iPhones and iPads to experiment with mobile learning.

    M-learning in India

There are several m-learning initiatives in India.

The Biju Patnaik University of Technology started a service in collaboration with SMSGupShup called the BPUTALERT, which distributes information, academic notices and calendars through to students.

Voicetap is another service using which people can send their queries through SMS, and the company messages back names of experts on the subject, and then users can connect to the right expert.

Another initiative, mGurujee, allows users to download questions and take tests to evaluate themselves. The service also allows people to receive reference content even if they are outside and away from their books. Users just need to register at the mGurujee portal to access free content. The site mGurujee has reinvented itself as a learning mobile store and several leading mobile service operators, app stores and handset manufacturers are working with the company.

But for mobile learning to become successful, learners need to have access to the technology.

The field of mobile learning is in its infancy, and developers are still fumbling with products.

MTS to launch network with 3G like speeds

    0

MTS, India’s third CDMA mobile service provider, will launch its upgraded network which will support data speeds up to 14.7 Mbps, starting from Rajasthan, in the next couple of months.

“MTS has already started the trial of the latest CDMA Rev B network and is expected to launch the services starting from Rajasthan in couple of months” says Leonid Musatov, chief operating officer, MTS India.

This move will put MTS directly in competition with the (GSM) operators in the country. Currently GSM 3G operators are offering speeds in the categories of 3.6 Mbps, 7.2 (most mobiles support maximum of 7.2 Mbps only), and 21.1 Mbps maximum (most operators are not offering this speed).

Currently MTS network uses CDMA Rev A (in 100 + cities) which allows it to offer 3.2 Mbps speed. With this upgrade, MTS will deliver speeds for 7-8 Mbps (though technically higher speeds up to 14.7 Mbps are possible).

MTS is also planning to price its data plans cheaper than the 3G competitors, as it doesn’t need to pay heavy price for the 3G spectrum that the GSM operators had to pay during the recently held auctions.

However this move might be opposed by the GSM operators as they had to sell out additional amount to offer 3G speeds.

Nokia has no plans for a tablet

    0

Nokia, which dominates the mobile handset business in India and the world over, has hinted that it will not venture into the tablet business for the time being.

Speculation about Nokia’s entry into the tablet segment was rife after the Finnish handset maker announced its partnership with Microsoft recently.

During the launch of Nokia E7 in New Delhi recently, D Shivkumar, vice president and managing director of Nokia India, made a presentation on how smartphones are taking over the PC market. The source of this analysis was a study by Gartner.

The inclusion of such a statement itself is a big hint towards Nokia’s future plans.

When asked about plans of foraying into the tablet market, D Shivkumar warded off the question saying that he is “not the right person to comment on this particular topic”.

Notably, Microsoft plans to launch a tablet operating system by the end of this year.

Android apps catching up fast with Apple

    0

Android is fast closing up with the Apple in terms of the number of applications, according to a research by Business Insider.

Android is still behind the Apple’s marketplace by about 100,000 apps and is growing fast.

Business Insider further predicted that would overtake Apple in terms of apps very soon in the near future.

In related news, the Windows Phone 7 marketplace crossed the milestone of 10,000 apps quicker than others have done.

In the face of 350,000 apps in Apple marketplace and 250,000 apps in Android marketplace, the Windows Phone 7 numbers are still small but the growth has been steady.
