How to Sync your BlackBerry with Microsoft Outlook

0

RIM BlackBerry users like to carry a uniform contact list on their device and also take backups. They can always sync their BlackBerry devices with Microsoft Outlook to share the same contact list between the device and the software.

Whether it is for contact numbers or for email addresses, synchronising a BlackBerry handset with Outlook regularly always has benefits. For instance, your Address Book is always backed up two ways – on your handset and on your PC.

Besides, the setup takes backups of the synched BlackBerry handset’s contacts and can transfer/restore this data to a handset made by Nokia, Apple, HTC, Samsung, LG or others as well.

That’s why setting up synchronisation between a BlackBerry handset and Microsoft is always helpful in the long run. Here is a step-wise guide to set up synching between a BlackBerry handset and Microsoft Outlook using a BlackBerry Desktop Manager on a PC and a microUSB 2.0 cable.

Download and install BlackBerry Desktop Software from RIM’s website. Also install the components required to finish the installation of this software.

Step one:
Start the BlackBerry Desktop Manager software and connect your BlackBerry handset to the PC using the microUSB cable.

Step two:
Select the Organizer from the left panel of BlackBerry Desktop Manager, then click on Configure Settings and click the OK button.

Step three:
From the popped up Intellisync menu window, check the box in front of Address Book.

Step four:
From the list of desktop applications, select Microsoft Outlook and click on Next.

Step five:
Select the relevant synchronisation options from the three available: Two way sync, one way sync from the device and one way sync to the device. Then click on the Next button to proceed.

Step six:
Choose the user profile as Outlook and then click Next.

Step seven:
Now the window will show you a preview of the selected sync configuration. We selected two-way sync so that the window showed a green arrow pointing both ways between Address Book and Microsoft Outlook.

Step eight:
The application will display congratulatory message and when you have successfully configured synchronisation. Finally the leads you back to BlackBerry Desktop Manager, which now shows the data synchronisation status with the box for sync between BlackBerry device Address Book and Microsoft Outlook checked.

Once you’ve setup the synchronisation settings all you have to do is click on the sync option at the bottom right corner of the BlackBerry Desktop Manager to initiate the process. In case there is duplication of contacts between BlackBerry device and Microsoft Outlook, follow the necessary options available from the on-screen notifications on the PC.

RCom to launch 7 inch CDMA tablet by Nov

0

Reliance Communications will launch a 7 inch, 2.3 based tablet by November in India for Rs 13,000. The tablet will be manufactured by Hong Kong based Coolpad Communications, which is also planning to launch 15 other phones and tablets in the next one year in India.

Talking to The Mobile Indian, Sami Al Lawati, managing director of Coolpad Communications, said, “We see a lot of potential in the CDMA network as far as data usage is concerned. We are therefore focused on CDMA handsets. We will launch 15 handsets in the next 12 months to cater to this market.”

However, he did not reveal details of the tablet. When asked about the brand building effort, he said, “We are not a mass market brand, so we will not use mass media for promotions. We are hiring executives who will be placed at each Reliance store so that they can help people buy the best Coolpad devices, use them properly and address any repair needs. We want people to be assured that they will get the right support with Coolpad phones and know about our brand by seeing our products.”

Al Lawati also said that there is a need for dual mode devices in India. “We have seen that CDMA has attracted a lot of data users through CDMA dongles. Users who want to carry the same data experience on their handsets will have the option of our EVDO (high speed CDMA) phones which will also support GSM SIMs so that they can use it for calling and SMS, and keep EVDO for data,” Al Lawati explained.

The company is also in talks with Tata Indicom and MTS (other CDMA players in India) for a potential partnership. “We are in touch with all the three CDMA operators in the country and we will introduce open market handsets (not locked to one network, also called OMH). We believe that OMH handsets are beneficial for all CDMA players as the biggest problem with CDMA is the lack of devices. We will address this issue by launching more and more phones in the market,” said Al Lawati.

He added, “We are also looking at partnerships with other operators.”

Although Coolpad has aggressive plans, the company needs to work on building its brand image more than is competitors do as it is currently considered a typical low cost Chinese manufacturer with shady quality standards.

After announcing its plan to launch the cheapest tablet, Fly Mobile has now told The Mobile Indian that it will launch two Android phones priced below Rs 4,500 in the Indian market.

Mandeep Chaggar, group product manager, Fly Mobile, said, “We are targeting first-time Android users by launching these two very attractively priced Android handsets within the next two months. What is important is that these phones will have very good performance as the chipsets we are using are ARM 8 and 9 based, and are low cost because these are made by MTK and Rockchip.”

He also said, “The touchscreens of these handsets will be resistive but very responsive as resistive technology is also maturing, providing low cost but user friendly touch technology.”

Both phones will be based on Android 2.2 and will sport 2.8 and 3.0 inch screens. The one based on a Rockchip will have a 1 GHz processor with faster 512 DDR3 RAM. The two phones will cost up to Rs 4,500.

Facebook app for Android gets update

0

The Facebook for Android has received another update which brings new features like the ability to tag friends and places in posts. Users also get more privacy controls with an improved sharing tool and settings to match the website. Last week the Facebook app for devices got new privacy options.

The update of Facebook for Android v1.7 app brings a couple of new options apart from fixing the issues leading to sudden crashes and performance lapses.

Profiles and Group Walls have a new design and look. Users can tag their friends as well as places in posts to be shared on the Facebook Wall. This feature makes the app work nearly as efficiently as it would be on a PC.

The most important improvement are the Privacy Controls to each posts. Users can now choose the group of people who can see the post. These controls will match the privacy settings previously made through the Facebook web interface.

Performance tweaks include better photo browsing while swiping between different images and tagging friends in the photos from the phone itself. This saves users the effort of having to log onto the web version just to tag friends. Apart from that, the Message and Notifications has also been tweaked to function properly.

Mozilla announces Firefox browser for Android tablets

0

Mozilla has released a test version of its Firefox browser for tablets.
The Firefox browser for Android brings both tabbed browsing and Awesomebar for the users. With Awesomebar, one can use the URL field to do a keyword search of history and bookmarks while tabbed browsing in Firefox lets you load Web pages in separate tabs of a single browser window.

The tabs will stay on the left side of the screen when the tablets are being used in the landscape mode. In the portrait mode, the same tabs move up, to the top of screen so users can get more space for browsing.

Mozilla has also added back, forward and reload button in the browser, apparently to take advantage of the bigger screens of tablets.

The Firefox browser version for Android is for the testing purposes only, so users may expect some bugs and glitches in it.

A Mozilla blog post also said, “Keep in mind that this is very early stage work. There are lots of rough edges and design is continuously evolving.”
