Google Reader app gets Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich like facelift

0

Google has rolled out a fresh update of the Google Reader for Android running devices. The new Google Reader app v1.1.1 brings the Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich style user interface and widgets to the reader. However, Google has pulled the sharing features from this Google Reader app as those features are offered by Google+ (Google Plus).

With the updated Google Reader app, Android 1.6 or higher running devices can now enjoy a new swipe/slide navigation feature. Users can now move between posts/entries by swiping left to right or right to left on the screen. Initially the navigation tip will show up at the bottom of the panel and it can go away once the user taps on ‘Got it’ button.
The user interface of the Google Reader widgets however remained the same.

Aimed with the minimalistic approach, the Google Reader app knocks off the sharing and other redundant features. The user interface has been tweaked a bit to appear like that of the Android 4.0 ICS one. One feature which any Google Reader user would request is the in-app video viewing capability.

Download the new Google Reader app from Android Market and try it out.

After considering these requests TRAI has bumped the SMS guidelines limit to 200 SMSs per day per SIM for authorised marketers and individuals.

A version of Aakash, hailed as the cheapest tablet of the world, will soon be unveiled. Suneet Singh Tulli, chief executive officer of Datawind, which makes the tablet, said to Business Standard.

Regarding Aakash tablet Tulli had earlier said to The Mobile Indian “The commercial version of Aakash tablet will have a 600 and we are also working on a 1.2 GHz processor for the version after that .”

The commercial version will be more expensive than the student version but will still be the cheapest tablet, at Rs 3,000. The tablet also includes direct support for while the current version only supports WiFi (and one needs a dongle for 3G).

Suneet Tulli told The Mobile Indian that the “commercial version will be called UBISlate and will be sold with a one year warranty”.

The only fear we have is that the tablet should not go the Tata Nano way, which though it received much publicity for being the cheapest car, was not commercially very successful.

GameStop launches Android gaming tablets

0

US based videogame retail chain GameStop has launched gamer-optimised tablets running operating system. The three different Android tablets are made by Samsung (Galaxy tab 10.1), Acer (Iconia 7) and Asus (EeePad Transformer).

These will have seven preloaded free games including Electronic Arts’ Dead Space and Madden NFL, as well as GameStop’s own Kongregate Arcade (a browser-based Android gaming touting access to hundreds of free Flash-based titles) and Google’s own Android Market app.

GameStop states it will sell the Android tablets at costs comparable to standard retail pricing. The company has also added a special code that will interact with an external wireless controller and will enable players to control four of the seven free games from across a room. The controller will be sold along with the devices for $39 (Rs 2000).

While these tablets won’t be coming to India since Gamestop has no presence in the sub-continent, success of these tablets will definitely lead to introduction of similar concepts in India.

Indian mobile content industry is struggling, however companies like Spice has already tried the concept by preloading mobile applications on top of the tablets that it sells.

Similarly Jumpgames, Indiagames and some other players will be keen to partner with handset manufacturers to try this concept. Sony Ericssson has already launched the Xperia Play and other PSP certified games that comes bundled with games. Similarly, Nokia also tied up with Electronic Arts for bundling the later’s games in its handsets. Closer home, Micromax is also trying the concept through phones like Gamolution and also is looking for a tie-up with EA.
