A message is making the rounds on WhatsApp claiming to offer 1,000GB of data for free as part of WhatsApp’s tenth anniversary. Researchers have verified that this offer is false and is nothing more than a scam. Unsurprisingly, the message doesn’t come from WhatsApp neither is the 1,000GB data offer any real.

The KaiOS version of WhatsApp comes with end-to-end encryption like on Android and iOS and also supports messaging and calling services. Officials from the government have requested WhatsApp to allow traceability of messages shared within the platform without disabling the service’s end-to-end encryption. Reacting to the story, WhatsApp said it has “nothing new to add” to what was previously said on the matter.
