MediaTek has confirmed that it’ll be introducing a 7nm 5G-enabled chipset sometime this year to rival that of Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 855 system-on-chip. The chipmaker revealed that the upcoming chip will be more powerful than the Helio P90 chip which was announced back in December last year.

With the upcoming launch of the Helio P90, MediaTek seems to be skipping out on the P80, owing to a vast change in performance and features which will be accompanied with the launch of the new SoC. In contrast to its predecessor, the chipset offers 13 percent better performance with support for taller 20:9 Full HD+ displays at a resolution of 2160 x 1080 pixels.

The successor to the MediaTek Helio P60 chipset is also likely to be manufactured using a 12nm FinFET process, which is similar to that of its predecessor. The Helio P70 will feature an octa-core processor with four Cortex A73 for performance and four Cortex A53 which will take care of the efficiency.
