King in the budget segment: Honor 8X or Redmi Note 5 Pro

Redmi Note 5 Pro packs in the Qualcomm 825 Octa-core processor with a 1.8 Hz Octa core, the 8X debuts the Kirin 710 octa-core processor, making it an even match between the contenders

The Redmi Note Pro has competition, and it’s a familiar name by now. The Honor 8X steps up to bat this time, fresh off a successful launch in China, and there is no escaping each other as the two go head to head in the 15K segment.

Design and display

With screen sizes of 6 inches or more becoming the norm to compete well, the Honor 8Xneeded something special to go against the Redmi Note pro’s metal case. The 8X doesn’t disappoint, pulling off a huge surprise with a stunning glass back design with dual tone finish to showcase its 6.5 inches Full display in all its glory with a 19.5:9 aspect ratio, and all of 2380X1080 pixels resolution.

The Redmi Note Pro 5 on the other hand, comes off as just a little ordinary with its 5.99-inch screen and 18:9 aspect ratio. Screen resolutions come in at 2340X1080 pixels for the 8X, while the Redmi Note 5 Pro can only put up a 2180X1080 defence. A Hands down win to the 8Xin this case.

Cameras

Widely considered among the most important, if not THE feature in the smartphone for users today, the cameras can undoubtedly be the deal breaker for some people. The Redmi Note 5 Pro 5 plays it safe, with dual cameras of 12 MP and 5 MP at the back, and a 20 MP front shooter. The Honor 8X, on the other hand, pulls out all stops with a 16 MP + 2 MP combination for the back, and a 16 MP front camera.

What makes this a killer combination is the enhancements, which have been taken to a whole new level in the 8X. It’s AI multi-scene recognition can identify 22 different categories of objects in images and 500 scenarios in real-time. Long exposure photos eliminate quality drop from hands shaking. Reduced shutter speeds and motion detection can get you fantastic action shots. What’s more, the videos offer the same versatility. The Redmi Note 5 Pro on the other hand, while packing in most of the features, can fall just a little short on a sheer number of options.

Hardware

While the Redmi Note 5 Pro packs in the Qualcomm 825 Octa-core processor with a 1.8 Octa core, the 8X debuts the Kirin 710 octa-core processor, making it an even match between the contenders. The CPU’s single-core performance represents an increase of 75% compared to the previous generation. The chipsets are manufactured by advanced 12nm process technology with 4 x 2.2 GHz Cortex-A73 and 4 x 1.7 GHz Cortex-A53 cores. Both offer the 4GB/64GB combinations, besides the higher 4GB/128 option too for the 8X, leaving nothing between them.

Battery

Coming to another feature, that not so long back was considered absolutely critical, we have the batteries. While the Redmi Note 5 Pro packs in a massive 4000 battery, the 8X comes very close with its own 3750 mAH powerhouse. The small difference apart, the 8X, thanks to its Turbo, will hope to match the Redmi Note 5 with its battery optimisation software especially during gaming, besides its EMUI support too.

Software

Surprisingly, on an already tough wicket, the Redmi Note 5 Pro cedes further ground with its Nougat version operating system, while the Honor 8X comes with the Android Oreo OS to stay ahead. This might be the final tick on an otherwise special performance for the phone, where it matches or exceeds the Redmi Note 5 Pro on every worthwhile parameter. Check out if a special festive deal can make this deal even sweeter for you right now!

Final word

In head to head comparison, in all the segments, Honor 8X is coming out as a winner as compared to Redmi Note 5 Pro. As a matter of fact, if you want a complete device which delivers amazing performance, AI-assisted camera, good battery life and has looks of a show stopper Honor 8X should be your next device.
