The news comes from HMD Global Chief Product Officer, Juho Sarvikas who took to Twitter to announce that the company is starting to roll out Android 9 Pie update to the Nokia 2.1. With Android 9 Pie (Go Edition), it'll get lighter apps to save storage space, faster booting and the same set of apps as Android Pie.
The Republic Day Offer can be redeemed on purchase of select Nokia Smartphones from company's online store. Users purchasing the aforementioned products will stand a chance to win 100 percent cashback which will be transferred to the consumer transacted account.
The company has revealed the timeline of the update schedule for Nokia-branded smartphones.
Nokia 8.1 will feature a 6.18-inch Full HD+ display with a screen resolution of 2246 x 1080 pixels. The phone will be powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 710 2.2GHz octa-core processor.
The Nokia 8.1 is expected to be the global variant of the Nokia X7 smartphone which was launched by the company in China.
The company is also expected to introduce the successor of the Nokia 8 named as Nokia 9 and successor of the Nokia 2.1 Android Oreo (Go edition) named as Nokia 2.1 Plus.
The device will not be sold in the US market as HMD Global will be disabling some of the network bands.
The smartphones will be available at top retail stores across the country and online on Nokia Mobile Shop and Paytm Mall. HMD Global has also announced a slew of launch offers of the latest smartphones. All the smartphones expect Nokia 2.1, which comes with Android Go, comes with Android One programme.
In India, the smartphone is likely to be launched with 4GB RAM and expected to be priced under Rs 20,000. At this price point, it will likely to compete with the Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 Pro and the Asus Zenfone Max Pro (M1) smartphones.
