The Logitech’s sub-brand UE is no stranger in the world of speakers. It has recently added a new member to its portable speaker, dubbed as the UE Megaboom. As the name suggested, the speaker is bigger and more powerful compared to the other Ultimate Ears devices.

UE is always known for giving premium music experience and some unique design. Available at Rs 16,495, the Megaboom surely seems to be costly, but with great price comes great responsibility, which the speaker surely fulfils. We have been the using the device for over a week now and here is our experience.

Design

The Ultimate Ears Megaboom spots a very standard and similar design, but bigger in size compared to the UE Boom 2. The speaker is available in four colour variants Plum, Electric Blue, Charcoal Black and Lava Red. The unit which we received was Charcoal Black in colour, which gives the device a premium and stylish look.

The cylindrical shape gives the speaker much-needed grip in hand and fits compactly inside the backpack. Further, the device is 9-inch in height and 877 grams in weight. Similar to the Boom 2, the Megaboom is also wrapped around with a mesh cloth, while the rounded top and bottom of the device are made of rubber, which gives a nice touch to the speaker design.

The top houses the power on/off and Bluetooth option, while the bottom has the Aux input, charging light indicator, port for charging and tripod mount, through which one mount it on a tripod stand to take it for outdoor parties. While the volume buttons will be found at the front of the speaker, following the tradition of “+” and “-” signs.

Other than this the company claims to offer IPX7 dust and water certification. In our review, we were not able to test the speaker in a pool, as there was no water in them during to the winter season. But to test the device we dumped the Megaboom in a bucket for few minutes and speaker worked perfectly fine.

Performance

To connect with the Megaboom, one will have to download the UE Megaboom on their or Device. Once done, turn your speaker on, connected it to Bluetooth and you are good to go. It is armed with two drivers and two 2×4 passive radiators. The actual 360-degree performance of the speaker is very impressive and was able to rock our entire office floor at maximum volume. In fact, it delivers the same music experience from all angles and no noticeable dead spots.

Further, It can be pair up to 8 Bluetooth enabled source from a distance up to 30 feet, and can even connect with two devices at the same time for a mix DJ experience in Block Party mode via UE app. Additionally, the UE comes with a PartyUp mode, with which one can connect up to 150+ UE speakers including the Boom, Boom 2 and Megaboom at the same time for a big party.

During our review period, the speaker was perfectly able to play highs and lows of sounds along with the high-quality bass of our favourite music tracks which we mainly miss at the maximum volume in any other speaker. Even if you tweak the equaliser for a high bass output of the device is not at all affected. Other than this the speaker is integrated with a microphone which all users to make hands-free calls or intract with Google Assistant/Siri.

The Megaboom surely impressed us the quality and the volume it is capable of, we were also amazed by the battery life of the device. The company claims to offer up to 20 hours of backup, but in our testing, the speaker lasts around 24-hours with an average of 70 percent volume level.

Moving to the UE app, one can use itto turn the speaker on and off remotely. Further, the application comes with few handy options likesequalizer, alarm, language choices for alerts, firmware updates and a display of what percent charge remains in its battery, which can also be known by hold both the volume buttons together. You can also use the app to enable tap gesture support that lets you control playback by tapping the top surface of the speaker.

Verdict

To sum up, if you own already own a UE Boom 2, or looking a for a new Bluetooth speaker for your home then there is no need. But if your goal is an ultimate outdoor party, then Megaboom is your device, as it delivers the premium quality of 360-degree audio with rich bass and ready is ready for any situation with IPX7 dust and water certification.
