Samsung has recently launched its new smartphone in the mid-range segment with the launch of Galaxy A70. The smartphone comes with a price tag of Rs 28,990 and it will be available from online and offline stores starting from May 01, 2019. In this price range, the phone will face fierce stiff competition from the Vivo V15 Pro, which also bears the same price tag of Rs 28,990. So, which one is actually better? Is it Samsung Galaxy A70 or Vivo V15 Pro? In this slideshow, we will give you step-by-step details of each device and then provide the final verdict based on the comparison. Coming to Vivo V15 Pro, the smartphone also features a plastic back panel that disguises as glass. You get a different yet striking finish at the back, which the company calls it Spectrum Ripple Design. This creates a series of pattern that looks quite interesting when you see under the light. However, the major highlights lie at the front as it offers an immersive viewing experience with a no-notch design. The phone is compact, though some might feel a bit heavy. That said, it feels solid when you hold in your hand.

On the hardware front, the Samsung Galaxy A70 is powered by an octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 675 along with Adreno 612 GPU. The smartphone is backed by a 6GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage, which can be further expanded up to 512GB via card slot. The phone also features an in-display fingerprint sensor along with face unlock.

Starting with the Galaxy A70 design, the smartphone comes loaded with a plastic finish at the back, which the company claims it to be “3D Glasstic”, which initiates a look of the glass. Coming to the back panel, it reflects rainbow colours when light falls on it. This clearly provides a premium look. The phone is quite tall, all thanks to a bigger screen. The front sports minimal bezels around the corner, though some might get distracted with the notch. That said, it is lightweight and the edges are curved gently so that you face no problem while holding this smartphone.

This is where Samsung takes the lead as it is loaded with Widevine L1 support, which allows HD streaming. However, the Vivo V15 Pro does not have such support, meaning users need to settle SD streaming on the popular streaming apps. That said, it all depends on you as those who do not prefer notch should go with Vivo V15 Pro, while those who love to stream video content, should stick with Galaxy A70.

Coming to Vivo V15 Pro, the phone is equipped with a 6.39-inch Full HD+ Ultra FullView Super with a screen resolution of 2340 x 1080 pixels. The smartphone major highlight is the display as the company has managed to remove the notch, all thanks to the pop-up selfie camera. You get an immersive viewing experience without getting distracted with the notch. That said, Vivo V15 Pro comes loaded with Always-On display as well and one chooses from different styles.

The Vivo V15 Pro is equipped with a 3,700mAh battery and the company has also included dual-engine support. The company claims that one can get up to 24 per cent of the battery with a 15 minute of charge. That said, in our testing, we found out that Vivo V15 Pro lasted comfortably one full day under normal usage.

Samsung Galaxy A70: User Interface

The Samsung Galaxy A70 runs on 9.0 Pie, which is based on OneUI. The company has made an overhaul in the user interface with OneUI. The is now more minimalistic in nature and looks refined as compared to its previous versions. We quite liked the Night Mode, which makes the whole user interface to black. Then the notification panel comes with big size icons that drop down to the bottom, making it easier to reach. However, the UI is loaded with some noticeable amount bloatware including third-party apps being Microsoft Office suite, Amazon Shopping, Daily hunt along with Samsung’s own suite of applications.

Both smartphones carry a similar set of specifications. In our testing, we found out that Vivo V15 Pro handles all tasks and the performance was quite smooth, although Galaxy A70 is yet to be tested out. That said, we will call this round as a tie as both the phones has identical specifications.

Samsung Galaxy A70: Battery

One of the major highlights of the smartphone is the 4,500mAh battery backup. Samsung has also bundled a 25W fast charger with the new device, which should ideally speed up the charging time. The company claims that the phone can provide up to two days of battery backup, though the claim is yet to be tested out.

Samsung Galaxy A70 is equipped with a triple-camera setup at the back, which comes with a combination of 32-megapixel primary camera with f/1.7 aperture, an 8-megapixel ultra-wide lens with f/2.2 aperture, 123-degree field-of-view and a 5-megapixel depth-sensing camera with f/2.2 aperture. For the front, there is a 32-megapixel selfie shooter with f/2.0 aperture. Galaxy A70 also features Samsung’s intelligent Scene Optimizer which analyses a scene across 20 modes and adjusts the colour, contrast, and brightness to optimise image quality.

Vivo V15 Pro: User Interface

Coming to Vivo V15 Pro, the phone also runs on the latest Android 9.0 Pie, which is based on FunTouch OS. The company has improved some features of the user interface and it now looks quite fast and smooth as compared to its predecessor. The UI is loaded with interesting features like split-screen mode, Gaming mode, Smart Motion and more. However, one cannot simply ignore the IOS-style layout of the Vivo’s interface. The user interface is also guilty of featuring bloatware like AppStore, iMusic, VivoCloud among others or third-party apps like Paytm, PhonePe, Gaane, UC Browser, WPS office and more.

Vivo V15 Pro: Rear Camera

The Vivo V15 Pro is equipped with a triple-camera setup, which comes with a combination of 48-megapixel quad pixel sensor, which delivers an output of 12 million effective pixels along with an 8-megapixel super wide angle lens and a 5-megapixel depth sensor. For the front, there is a 32-megapixel selfie shooter with f/2.0 aperture, which pops up when you open the selfie mode. The smartphone is also equipped with scene detection and one can also access raw 48-megapixel shot through Pro mode.

One can also use the AR Emojis on this device and create their favourite characters.

Both the smartphones run on the latest version of Android and both the UI comes with a fair share of hits and misses. The Samsung user interface is quite smooth in nature and offers some minimalistic design. The Vivo’s interface is fast and comes loaded with some interesting features. However, both UI has a fair amount of bloatware. However, with Vivo V15 Pro we noticed that the company is sending timely updates, an area where Samsung is lagging. That said, the user interface is again a personal choice, hence, we call this round as even.

This is where it gets interesting. Both smartphones are equipped with the same 32-megapixel sensor. Vivo is also using a Samsung sensor for its front camera. We haven’t properly tested out the performance of the Samsung Galaxy A70. This is why we are calling this round as a tie.

Samsung Galaxy A70: Video

When it comes to shooting videos, the Samsung Galaxy A70 comes provides different resolutions. The phone can shoot a video at 30 fps, 1080p video at 60fps and 720p video as well. The company has also added the support for slow motion and hyperlapse modes in the videos. Interestingly, the brand has introduced a Super Slow-Mo option under which the phone takes 8-second video and automatically adds background music, which is a good move.

Vivo V15 Pro: Video

Coming to Vivo V15 Pro, the smartphone also offers a host of different resolutions. The phone can shoot 4K videos, 1080p at 60ps and 30fps, and 720p at 30fps and 60fps. The company has also added slow motion and hyperlapse modes as well.

Vivo V15 Pro: Front Camera

Vivo V15 Pro’s major highlight is its selfie camera. The smartphone is equipped with a 32-megapixel shooter for selfies and video calling with f/2.0 aperture. The company has added some interesting features to play and we liked the AI Portrait Lighting mode, which is again an imitation of Apple’s Studio lights mode. That said, the performance of the selfie is pretty decent and you will not face any trouble using it.

The competition is quite close in this department as both the smartphones are equipped with some identical specifications of the rear cameras. However, the major difference here is that Vivo V15 Pro uses a 48-megapixel quad-pixel sensor, that basically gathers the information of the image in 48 megapixels and compresses it to a 12-megapixel output. Furthermore, the phone comes loaded with a dedicated that also utilises the primary sensor and using pixel binning technology enhances the photos clicked in low light condition. Samsung does have a Scene Optimiser that applies AI algorithm on the photos, but we prefer the Vivo V15 Pro as it delivers slightly better camera setup as compared to the Galaxy A70.

Verdict

Both the smartphones gave neck-to-neck competition to each other. The Samsung Galaxy A70 is slightly better-designed smartphone when it comes to the finish at the back, while the Vivo V15 Pro has an upper in the display department. Both the phones offer similar hardware specifications and the user interface as we said, is a matter of personal choice. In the battery department, the Galaxy A70 wins clearly, while the Vivo V15 Pro has better rear cameras. That said, it all boils down to personal preference. Those who have used a Samsung device in the past will find Galaxy A70 an interesting proposition, while those who want to try new technologies can go for the Vivo V15 Pro.

Samsung Galaxy A70 has a certain edge over the Vivo V15 Pro as the former videos came out to be slightly better as compared to the latter. The Super Slow-mo mode is actually pretty useful and it is quite fun to play. However, Vivo V15 Pro does not have such a mode. So, these rounds go to Samsung Galaxy A70.
