App Review: AI Type Keyboard

0

A.I. Type Keyboard is a context aware keyboard which is available for free from the Market. The keyboard, its developers say, helps faster typing by reducing required keystrokes by about 75 percent.

The app predicts words on the basis of what users are typing and most of the time it did so quite accurately. It corrects misspellings as well.

When users type something on the A.I. keyboard, the app sends the data to its cloud-based servers which in turn prescribe probable words. The app does also works even in the absence of Internet connection but is not that effective.

Text prediction works a little differently, because the makers say it adapts to the writing style being typed and that it becomes more accurate with time. When it auto corrects a word, it gives out a notification sound. One can keep that correction or remove it. It is simple, intuitive and user friendly.

Currently it works only in the English language.

Amazon Kindle app for Android gets PDF support

0

Amazon rolled out two new updates of its Kindle application for devices. The Amazon Kindle offers a library of several free and paid books on Android devices but supports only specific file formats. With the new Kindle App for Android v3.3.1.1, users will be able to add and open Pdf files (portable document format) to it.

This is great news for those who have several ebooks and other documents in Pdf format.

The app will now display Pdf documents but the implementation is very basic. Users can only zoom or turn pages and do not have other fancy features for those Pdf files. Unfortunately, the Pdf support feature is not up front, which means that users will have to navigate to the Pdf file on the smartphone and then choose ‘open with Amazon Kindle App’ to read the document.

Apart from that, the update will let Android smartphone users customise their reading experience with new Margin and Line Spacing controls. Of course, support for Android 4.0 smartphones has been added but it came too soon. Several bug fixes have had to be made.

Apparently, this support comes after popular light-weight Pdf reader Foxit released an app for Android and Amazon had invested money in the company. As part of the deal, the Kindle app got the much demanded Pdf support. Soon, all the fancy functions would be added to Kindle app to compete with the Adobe Reader and other ebook applications.
