Jabra’s new headset cancels ambient noise

0

Jabra, a global headset vendor of GN Netcom, today announced the launch of Supreme, which the company claims, is world’s first Bluetooth mono (non-stereo) headset to incorporate Active Noise Cancellation technology. The headset also comes with digital signal processing (DSP), Noise Blackout 3.0 and Wind-Noise Reduction technology for exceptional audio quality.

According to Ann Goh, regional sales manager, GN Netcom, responsible for mobile products business in South East Asia, “For years, headset-makers have focused on noise reduction technology that avoids the transmission of background noise in the call. Now Jabra Supreme does it all &#151 by reducing ambient noise around the user. It’s like having phone conversation in a quiet room, wherever the user may be.”

Active Noise Cancellation uses one dedicated microphone and an electronic to generate an “anti-noise” sound, removing ambient noise around the user that he would otherwise hear as well. The end result for the user is call quality that is excellent in sound no matter the noise setting he happens to be in. Before Jabra Supreme, Active Noise Cancellation was been available only in high-end stereo headphones.

Jabra has also used its latest generation Noise Blackout technology &#151 Noise Blackout 3.0 – in Jabra Supreme. According to the company, this new technology dramatically reduces background noise that is transmitted to the caller on the other end of the line, so the caller also hears you better and clearer.

Jabra Supreme has also the Wind-Noise Reduction technology developed for calls in outdoor, especially in windy conditions. To reduce wind noise, Jabra has placed the dual microphones in the boom arm tip in a capsule. The capsule is made of foam, letting all sound waves through, but stopping almost all wind. That leaves the microphones in a wind dead chamber, only focusing on capturing the voice.

Jabra Supreme has a black leather finish and its boom arm that ‘flips’, enabling users to power on and off by simply flipping the headset open and closed. Its adjustable ear hook and selection of ear cushions makes for one of the most comfortable and easiest headset carrying solutions in the market. What’s more, it is equipped with a 24mm speaker for powerful sound.

Jabra Supreme is voice ready as well. Being HD voice ready will ensure that the conversations sound as natural as if the user is standing right next to the person he is talking to. As and when the mobile operators start offering high-definition (HD) voice on their networks, it shall be able to deliver rich, crisp and clear HD voice with just a simple software upgrade while other Bluetooth products would require hardware changes to achieve the same.

With Jabra Supreme, users are empowered to make, answer, end, redial, ignore and reject a call (even call back) via their voice. They just have to say the right function-related word like “Call Dad”, “Answer”, “Ignore” etc, to enjoy complete hands free communication.

Users get to hear the name of the caller (for example, “Mom Cell”, “David’s Office” etc.), exactly how they have stored the name in their phone. If the caller’s number is not stored in the phone, Jabra Supreme shall read out the phone number. It says “Connected” as and when it pairs with the mobile phone. In fact, it even guides you through to the set-up or the pairing process. It says “Low Battery” when it needs to be charged.

Using the advanced Multiuse TM technology, it can connect to 2 Bluetooth devices simultaneously. With its capabilities, it can stream multimedia content and application data from your phone. Single swipe of a finger is all it takes to adjust (increase /decrease) the volume through a touch sensor placed on top. The device can be upgraded as well and when new firmware is announced by Jabra through the in-built micro-USB port on top near the volume control. On one side it has StatusDisplay that shows the battery as well as Bluetooth connectivity status. It has six hours of and 15 days of standby time. It weighs just 18 grams and carries a price tag of Rs 7999.

Top 5 projectile games on Android

0

Today, Android is considered the numero uno operating system as it not only has numerous applications but also boasts a vast number of games of different genres. Among different genres, projectile games have gained much popularity for their simple controls and gameplay.

You don’t need any hardware buttons or keys to play this game; all you need is a touchscreen device, and skill.

Here we have shortlisted the best projectile games on Android.

Pool Master Pro

Pool Master Pro, as the name suggests, is a lot like real life pool. This Android game is available in both eight and nine ball varieties, in different challenging environments and player modes. Users can choose to play against the computer or with another person by taking turns on the same device.

For beginners, the game offers ample opportunity to practice and play, so don’t sweat if you know nothing about pool. You will stumble upon all the rules and tricks of the game in a very short while.

The game is optimised for minute movements and tweaks, so even the slightest change in the angle of a ball or the striker will result in a completely different shot. The physics engine that takes care of the balls’ movement is very refined and is one of the main reasons for the game’s popularity.

###PAGE###Dragon Hunter

This is a projectile based shooter game where you get to play the role of the arrow man whose goal is to protect the castle from dragons. The first level of the game gives you basic hints for aiming and hitting with the help of a visible projectile path so that you get a fair idea as to how much force and what angle to use while shooting the dragon.

You can choose direction by placing their fingers on the desired place. The force with which the arrow is shot depends on how long you keep your finger on the screen. So the longer you keep your finger on the screen, the faster the arrow flies.

Because you are a dragon hunter, you’re paid for every dragon you kill. This money can be used to upgrade weapons and increase the power of attacks, strengthening the castle and so on. Upgrades get costlier as you progress in the game so you will have to choose well and decide what you need. Since the inflow of money is really slow, spend wisely.

###PAGE###Fruit Ninja

Fruit Ninja, which is also available on iOS, was recently added to Android Market as a free application. Even though it is relatively new, it has managed quite a following with its psychotic, fruit slicing action.

Simple yet intriguing, in this game the player only has to slice the fruits thrown at him.

Here also you have to control the angle and the strength of the blade before you swing it across the screen, so being alert all the time is imperative.

Fruit Ninja has three game play modes including Classic, Zen and the new Arcade, featuring power ups including Freeze, Frenzy and Double Score at regular intervals. The Dojo section is the bonus section in the game that has unlockable blades and backgrounds which unlock after some effort.

###PAGE###Defender

The defender is a castle based shooter game where you play the archer, whose aim is to protect the castle from monsters.

Like in Dragon Hunter, here too you have to control the intensity and angle of the arrow. Besides, here you have to be swift while shooting as well. As the levels proceed, the monsters grow stronger and you need to be both, clever and fully upgraded, to face them. You can choose the direction by placing your finger on the desired place and the character in the game will shoot an arrow at the place.

The game has a variety of spells as well, which protect the castle when monsters attack in swarms or when arrows deal too little damage. To cast these spells, you need the Mana power, which is available in limited quantities, so you need to be really judicious while using it.###PAGE###

Galactic Shooter

Ever wondered if you could play with the planets and stars? Well, the game Galactic Shooter involves just that.

Galactic Shooter Lite is like snooker in terms of action. Players have to use their snooker or pool skills to achieve the target, which is to cover a star with the moon or a smaller planet while avoiding obstacles. The game is based on projectile inputs and users can control the angle, speed and direction of the hit. The player is an alien who sits in his spacecraft and shoots at other planets or stars.

The developer has released just the lite version of this application that has 15 levels with different levels of difficulty and target. There are also plans to launch the paid version of this soon, and that will feature 30 levels with a new graphic interface, and a level creator that will allow users to design their own custom levels.

Game Review: Yoo Ninja Plus

0

Yoo Ninja Plus is the advanced and speedy version of the original Yoo Ninja game.

If you have not played the original Yoo Ninja, then this version is certainly not for you. You will need to brush up your skills by playing the original game.

Game play is similar to that of Yoo Ninja but is faster and has more difficulty levels. The player, a cute little ninja, needs to run faster while overcoming hurdles and going through tricky spots, and yes our little ninja friend can defy gravity as well.

You have to run faster in the game as you will be chased by two deadly spinning and always chasing shurikens, which kill you if you stop. In the previous game, the player were given a second of breathing time before these shurikens reached the ninja, but not in Yoo Ninja Plus. Here, if you blink you are dead.

There are four levels in the game including Persia, Mountains and Glacier. If you manage to finish all the stages, which is noteworthy, you can play the endless stage that throws random hurdles at you while the little ninja runs faster and faster.

Ultimately, this free game is yet another marvel coming from Runner Games and if you love fast-paced action you must have this game on your device.

Sony Ericsson challenges Nokia, Samsung: TMI survey

Sony Ericsson seems to have succeeded in impressing Indian mobile consumers by launching an array of Xperia devices this year. And now, the company looks forward to challenge the supremacy of Nokia and Samsung in the Indian handset market. This is reflected in ‘The Handset Hotlist survey (December 2011). Six of the 25 phones that made it to the list are from Sony Ericsson.

The Handset Hotlist is brought out by The Mobile Indian every month. It is based on a survey of online preferences of more than eight lakh unique visitors who came to the site in November 2011, and searched for and viewed information about mobiles on the site’s handset guide which lists more than 1,700 models.

Sreekant Khandekar, director, The Mobile Indian, says, “Nokia and Samsung have formed a duopoly that has dominated The Handset Hotlist for the last seven months, but since August 2011, Sony Ericsson has been slowly and steadily strengthening its position, especially with its flagship Xperia series.”

Khandekar further adds, “Sony Ericsson in 2011, on an average, has launched one device per month. Of these, four Xperia devices and two Walkman series smartphones have made it to December’s Top 25 list. This suggests that half the mobiles launched by the company this year, have managed to grab the interest of the online consumer.”

According to The Handset Hotlist for December 2011, 10 of the 25 most exciting mobile handset models are from Nokia. Samsung follows with eight, and Micromax has one model.

This month too, Nokia C5-03, a Symbian operating system based handset, was the most-searched mobile phone on The Mobile Indian. Stable mates Nokia 701 and Nokia 700, each climbed six slots compared to last month, to occupy the second and third slots, respectively.

Seven new handsets made their way into the list this time — Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc S, Sony Ericsson Xperia X8, Sony Ericsson W8, Samsung Galaxy Note, Samsung Galaxy Y S5360, Samsung Galaxy pop S5570, and the Nokia 2720 fold.

Consumer interest in Micromax models was weaker in December, with only one handset, A 70, an smartphone, making it to the list as opposed to two models from the company that normally mark attendance.

Top 10 Indian Challengers

Mirroring the Handset Hotlist, Micromax continued its downward journey in The Top 10 Indian Challengers list for December. The brand, which had bagged eight slots in last month’s report, was able to garner only six this month.

The Challengers list was introduced in August, and has a ranking of the 10 most exciting handsets from Indian marketers, based on the preferences of visitors to the handset guide section of The Mobile Indian.

Commenting on the Challengers’ list, Khandekar says, “A striking aspect of the Challengers list is that most models feature here for only a month before disappearing in the next. This indicates that consumer interest in a majority of Indian models is fleeting, unlike the Hotlist, where the international brands typically remain for at least a couple of months.”

This month, six new phones made it to the Challengers list — Micromax-A85, iBall-Andi, Karbonn-K-1818, Spice-Mobiles-Mi-350, iBall-Aura-V36, and Micromax-X78.

Listen to mythological stories through mobile

0

UTV Interactive, which earlier launched audio cinema for the mobile users, has now launched a service that offer Indian mythological stories on the move though a voice based service.

The product, named Divya Kathayein, will offer stories that will be around Ramayana and deities like Krishna, Shanidev, Ganesha, Durga, Vishnu, Shiva and Sai Baba. It is available in various languages like Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Malayalam, Oriya and Bengali.

“Mythology based content is significantly consumed across mediums in our country be it television, films and now mobile phones. After Bollywood and cricket, it is the biggest market for business in the entertainment sector,” said Lavina Tauro, senior vice-president, voice products, UTV Interactive.

“Ninety per cent of the ever increasing mobile phone population in India still uses basic mobile phones with key source of entertainment being voice-related products and this, we believe will dominate the entertainment space in the mobile VAS segment,” she added.

“We devised to launch Divya Kathayein which would provide the masses in the country with mythological content on the go. This product gives them the opportunity to gain knowledge on their deities anytime and anywhere,” said Tauro.

Mythological stories have so far been well received through interesting narrative formats on television like Ramayana, Mahabharata, Shri Krishna, Sai Baba, Dwarkadeesh and Jai Jai Jai Bajrangbali and in movies like Hanuman, My Friend Ganesha and Luv Kush. So, the company was keen to bring an audio version of such stories, which have been passed on from generation to generation.

The company is in discussion with various operators for the service. It has already partnered Reliance Communications on whose network the service is available for Rs 30 per month.

“We are starting with 5-6 stories, which will be refreshed every fortnight. So, there would be about 10-12 new stories every month that people will have access to,” Tauro said.

HP to open source webOS for tablets

0

HP has formally announced to contribute the operating system to the open source community. In simpler terms, the HP Palm webOS will now be an open source operating system, very similar to the Google Android. HP will continue to play an important role in the development of the future versions of the WebOS. The basic goal is to open up the development of webOS platform and invest in it.

HP had bought Palm last year and then rolled out one smartphone and a tablet based on the Palm webOS operating system. After the surprising call to stop making Palm webOS based devices, HP has surprised many by turning webOS into an open source project.

Meg Whitman, HP’s chief executive officer, told The Verge in an interview that the webOS based tablets is what the company is looking forward and not that interested in smartphones. So we can expect to see webOS based tablet sometime in the year 2013.

HP has clearly outlined that the underlying code of webOS will be available through the open source licenses. Taking that forward, the open source developers, HP engineers and hardware manufacturers are expected to take it to next level with improvements and more features. HP has highlighted clearly that the open source webOS won’t have any fragmentation issues like the one suffered. In a way, webOS will be competing with the Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich for the tablets.

Not all components of the webOS would be open sourced entirely. In due course of time HP will work on swapping the patented and (Intellectual Properly) based components of the webOS.

For the tablet manufacturers, webOS would be a perfect contender as the third operating system for tablets after Microsoft’s Windows 8 and Google Android.

Google launches Androidify

0

Google has announced a new service – Androidify which allows Android users to create personalise avatars of the Android mascot of their liking.
The free service allows users to control minutest details of the avatar and can modify it as they like. They can choose different body type, face size, hair type, colour, clothes accessories and even facial marks and scars from Androidify to make the mascot they want to see.

Androidify is available for all devices running Android version 2.1 and above. Google has made this service available absolutely free of cost so that all the android users make use of it. No other operating system other than Android is allowed to use this and it will remain Android exclusive.

The avatars created using the Androidify application can be used to share with friends through email or social networks as contact pictures and even can be downloaded on computers to be used in places of regular pictures.

Android users can head over to the website specially created for Androidify or get the application form the Android Market. Alternatively users can also head out to the app store directly by following the link to download the application on their android device.

PlayStation Store comes to certified phones in Japan

0

The PlayStation Store is now open for a range of PlayStation Suite-certified Sony Ericsson phones in Japan. The Store will be launched in other countries soon but no specific date has been announced.

There are 23 original PS One games available in the PlayStation Store right now including some free games like Minna no Golf 2.

Xperia Arc and Acro are the fourth and fifth phones to get this coveted certification. Other devices to get this certification are Xperia Play, Sony P tablet and Sony S tablet.

More phone and tablets are likely to get this certification including the Arc S, Nozomi, and other Xperia range devices with Android 2.3 or higher. Sony also plans to release the PlayStation suit SDK so that other Android manufacturers could also certify their devices and to make PlayStation game store available on non-Sony Android devices.

Google Plus gets new Find My Face feature

0

Google has started rolling out a new experimental facial recognition feature dubbed as ‘Find My Face’ for Google+ (Google Plus).

The new ‘Find My Face’ when activated prompts the user’s contacts to tag the user whenever his/her face appears in the photos. Also the user does get the option to accept or reject the tags. In a way, this feature would be compared with Facebook’s Photo Tag Suggest feature.

Google wishes to be in safe waters and thereby offered an opt-in method for its facial recognition feature. So the onus rests in the hand of the user whether to activate the feature or not.

Facebook’s Photo Tag Suggest is a similar feature that automatically scans the images of your friends across your network and suggests tagging who might be in the said photo. This is an opt-out method where user has to deactivate the option that has been enabled by default.

Find My Face feature is being rolled out to Google Plus users in a phase and so far there’s no update on whether it would be available to the Google Plus app or not. For the Google Plus App for Android, Google has already offered the Instant Upload feature and adding the Find My Face would certainly make it a worthy.

Google Plus is a growing social network and the Google engineers are working to bring enough features with equal caution instead of just throwing them to the users. With new 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich interface and several APIs offered, we believe that Google indeed will tweak the Google+ app to make it equally compelling as the desktop version.

Just in case you wish to try out the Google Plus app, get it from Android Market here.
