The Share Trip feature, which allows drivers to share the details of the trip including route and ETA.

In a bid to make the commute safer for women, Uber has announced a host of safety initiative in India. The cab aggregator has announced the launch of its UberSAFE campaign, which comes loaded with Share Trip and driver de-duplication features.

To start with, the company has introduced Share Trip feature, which allows drivers to share the details of the trip including route and ETA, in real time with family or friends. This feature will be rolled out today in Delhi, Kolkata, Jaipur, Ahmedabad, Pune, Mumbai, Lucknow and will be fully rolled out across India by end of the month.

In addition to a comprehensive onboarding process, background process, background check, Uber has also introduced initiatives like Real Time ID Check and de-duplicate driver partner accounts on its platform. This ensures the right person is behind the wheels and riders have a safe and reliable experience while on the ride. The de-duplication technology will help eliminate duplicate accounts and account-sharing incidents.

Uber is paying close attention to making rides safer in India and has announced a couple of new features recently which include the display of driver first name, photo, license plate number and rating when a driver accepts a request. The company had also added an SOS function through which riders will be able to directly connect with the police control room and an internal response team at Uber as well, in the case of an emergency.

Previously, the company announced in-app chat feature, riders can now chat with the driver to provide information such as their location. The new feature can be found in the Contact section of the app. However, it only works when you connected to the driver. During a Pool trip, the feature will allow the driver to know which rider sent the chat. Lastly, both riders and driver partners will see if their chats are delivered and read.
