Reliance Jio Infocomm claimed to have crossed 16 million subscribers mark in its first month of operations (September, 2016). As per Jio it is a world record for a telecom operator or start up in the world including the likes of Facebook, WhatsApp and Skype.

Jio has introduced Aadhaar-based paper-less Jio activation across 3,100 cities and towns. This, as per the telecom operator, “enables the customer to complete the SIM activation process in a matter of minutes, with only his/her Aadhaar number”. Jio now wants to extend this facility to other areas of the country.

However, many are complaining non-availability of SIMs. Even after a month of its officiall roll out, long lines can be seen in front of Jio outlets. Despite that more people are queing up as Jio has promised to offer free services till December 31 this year.
