Sony has finally launched Xperia XZ Premium for Rs 59,990, in India and it does come with some nifty perks if you opt for it. One can get SRS-XB20 Wireless Bluetooth Speaker worth Rs. 8,990, if you pre-book the latest flagship device. The Galaxy S8 on the other hand, Rs 57,990, offers a virtually zero bezel, or almost 100%screen area. It’s the biggest, most immersive screen on a Galaxy smartphone of this size. And it’s easy to hold in one hand. So let’s do a check between these two.
Display And Design
Samsung’s Galaxy S8 has a 5.8-inch curved AMOLED panel that’s taller than other phones. The 18.5:9 aspect ratio offers more space than a regular 16:9 display. That helps it fill more of the available space and the edges that curve downward make it comfortable to hold. Samsung calls this an “infinity display.” The Resolution is 2960 x 1440, which is among the highest available on a phone. Conversely, Sony Xperia XZ Premium comes with what Sony calls loop surface design with a 5.5-inch IPS LCD display and comes with a 4K screen (3840×2160 pixel resolution) and adds HDR 10 into the mix. It has a Corning’s Gorilla Glass 5.and the sides of the phone are metal, the top and bottom ends are plastic. Evidently, Samsung has an upper hand here because it manages to give a distinct look with compact design coupled with Infinity Display.
However, the S8 isn’t without it faults as it includes a fingerprint scanner which is almost impossible to use whereas, Xperia XZ Premium has a side-mounted fingerprint scanner on-board the device.
Hardware and Software
The Samsung Galaxy S8 is powered by the latest Exynos 8895 chipor the Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 chip paired with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of internal memory, which can be expanded using a microSD card, whereas, Sony Xperia XZ smartphone is powered by the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 Processor along with Adreno 540 GPU, and it comes with 4GB of RAM. The phone packs 64GB of internal storage that can be expanded up to 256GB via a microSD card. There’s not much of a difference between the two with respect to their storage space and processor. While on the software side, the user interface more or less depends on the consumer’s preference.
Camera Quality:
Coming to the camera, Sony Xperia XZ Premium boasts of it’s 19- Megapixel Motion Eye camera, which supports Super slow motion 960fps video capture, Predictive Capture, Ant-distortion shutter, and 4K video recording. For the front, there is 13-megapixel Exmor RS for mobile image sensor, 22mm wide angle lens, ISO 6400 and Aperture f/2.2.
Apart from this, it has a wide angle front camera, perfect for selfies. Conversely, Samsung Galaxy S8 is equipped with a 12-megapixel rear camera with Dual Pixel technology and aperture f/1.7 and an 8-megapixel front-facing camera with smart Autofocus and aperture f/1.7.MP F1.7 Smart autofocus front camera.
The device has a good track record to capture some aesthetic photos in low lights. Therefore, we can rightly say that Sony Xperia XZ is better in terms of camera quality.
Battery
The battery is better in Sony Xperia XZ Premium is backed by a 3,230mAh battery and Qualcomm’s Quick Charge 3.0. It ships with a Quick Charger UCH-12 in the box which is claimed to charge the phone by up to 60per cent in 45 minutes. On the other hand, S8 has a 3,000mAh battery to complete the package. Therefore Sony Xperia XZ Premium edges this too.
Closing
At this level, the usual phone metrics of battery, memory, speed, camera become almost secondary to the brand reputation itself. While no leader in phones, Sony is no slacker when it comes to brand trust and reputation.
Thus, we can rightly say in terms of its features, Sony Xperia XZ Premium definitely wins this race. So if you shell out little extra bucks from your pocket, you may avail the best facility possible.
