I successfully ported my Reliance CDMA to Airtel GSM and using it happily since 2011. I want to have a new number to my Reliance CDMA phone now, but the RWorld fellows says they aren't providing any new CDMA no.s and even MNP from other CDMA/GSM to my Reliance CDMA phone isn't possible it seems. Is it true?

Migration from CDMA to GSM Operator with MNP There are still lots of confusion in the minds of mobile users whether or not they can move their CDMA numbers (Reliance CDMA, TATA Indicom or MTS) to a non-CDMA (GSM) operator. Well, the answer is YES! A CDMA customer can migrate or port a CDMA number to GSM operator or vice-versa by following the same procedures mentioned on our previous post: Mobile Number Portability: Procedure, Charges and FAQs. Procedure for porting CDMA number to GSM Here’s a summary of what you need to do for moving from CDMA to GSM with same number: SMS: Portyour mobile number to 1900 Get your unique porting code (UPC) via SMS and submit it to the new operator (GSM/CDMA) along with prescribed fees of Rs. 19 and other documents & photo Wait for 5-7 days before your CDMA number gets ported to new GSM operator.

Yes, you can convert your cdma connection to gsm using mobile Number Portability(MNP), you have to send sms PORTYour Mobile Number and sent it to 1900.(Ex. PORT 9812345678) You’ll get an Unique Porting code (UPC).Goto your nearest retailer of your choice (Airtel/Idea/BSNL/Tata etc..) and ask for an application form in which you need to fill your details along with your UPC code received. After all the process has been completed, the retailer will hand over a new GSM SIM to you which you’ll need to place in a GSM phone.
