When we say 3G will not be cheap, it means customers here will not get those bundled unlimited plans seen in the US and some other countries. Such plans have completely clogged the networks of those service providers. Compared to unlimited packages that you get in other parts of the world, one may find 3G to be expensive here in relative terms. India is not as cheap as some other countries are, or these services are not as cheap as voice calls because of the spectrum constraints. 3G in India will continue to be around affordability and availability, but operators will opt for the sachet approach. Despite data being priced on the higher side on the current 2G platform, these services continue to sell; the same will happen for 3G, and customers who opt for specific options such as downloads, surfing in small packets will find the pricing reasonable.

3G is not very cheap, but it is worth to pay for the immense services 3G offer. 3G offers SMS, MMS, video calls, Bluetooth, EDGE, GPRS, GPS, mobile broadband, mobile TV and many other applications. Data transfer speed of 3G is very high, up to a maximum of 5-6 Mbps. 3G technology is packet-based service. Different Service providers variety of packages, but most of them have plans where the user pays for the amount of data transferred. Cost also differs among countries. Countries like China, South Korea, Japan, US has small 3G rates while other Asian and African countries like India, South Africa have higher rates.

Depends on several factor . Many countries eg. Japan allocated their spectrum for free to telecom company , so 3G there is very cheap as compared to India where telecom companies had to pay hefty price for 3G spectrum. Another factor is in developed countries people use Wi-Fi more than 3G to connect to Internet as there are many free Wifi hotspots there . So it automatically reduces 3G's price.
