The reason is that software control determines margin or profitability. Nokia is very conscious of the supplier base since it uses many components. If a component supplier has a higher level of control, then Nokia loses pricing power and margins. Nokia will not allow suppliers to provide critical components for which it cannot find substitutes. A platform quickly becomes so important that the companies that license it are unable to switch out of it and the low margins don't allow for investment in alternatives. See: Dell.

Nokia went official on their partnership with Microsoft but the source mentioned that the Android deal fell through. But according to Eldar Murtazin, Nokia is considering becoming partners with Google. His sources say that Nokia is in negotiation with Google as well to form a partnership and launch the first Nokia Android devices in 2012.

We earlier told you about Nokia’s CEO Stephen Elop having talk with Steve Ballmer of Microsoft and Eric Schmidt of Google. He says that Nokia is going towards more turnover, however they will end up with no OS of their own. Right now we are not sure of the accuracy of the news. But Eldar Murtazin and his sources have been pretty accurate in the past.

Nokia has ling had their own operating system called Symbian. All their devices shilped with it. However when it became apparent symbian was not up to standards whwn compared to other operating systems they agreed it was time to switch. - The Finnish company opted to promote three major operating systems instead of two, opting to back Windows Phone 7 against Android and iOS Thats why you dont see a Nokia android. but we hope that nokia will launch android phone very soon.... perhaps n900 is based on android platform..lets see

Nokia phones runs on java based OS and their own symbian and maemo OS. Now to boost up their productivity, Nokia has tied up with microsoft to launch windows based phones more likely to be called as "mango phones". While considering to switch between the OS, Nokia has to change the architecture of their hardware manufacturing depending on the OS they are going to use. When it comes to a Nokia phone with Android based OS, it may require a lot of changes in the Nokia hardware including the usage of advanced processor, separate GPU which inturn increase the cost of the phone. Nokia has to come forward to adopt Android in their devices. In the future, we can expect such android based phones in Nokia, but currently not.

Nokia is currently focusing on its Windows based phones so we cannot expect the Android based phone to hit stores any time in the near future. But Nokia as mentioned earlier, is full of surprises. So nothing can be taken for granted. But, the leaked pictures of the Nokia phone indicate that the Nokia Android phone runs on either Froyo or Gingerbread versions of the Android OS. The Nokia phone is yet to be named or announced so there is no news regarding its specs and features. However there is some mention of its name being Nokia NB72. The leaked pictures were found on the same website that first published pictures of Nokia"s Windows based mobile handset. It was also met with the same amount of suspicion but proved to be right all the way when Nokia itself launched the mobile at the Nokia Communications Event 2011. So if the internet leakage history is anything to beckon with, then we can be sure of a mouth watering Nokia Android phone too in the coming years.
