Java is a programming language originally developed by James Gosling at Sun Microsystems (which is now a subsidiary of Oracle Corporation) and released in 1995 as a core component of Sun Microsystems' Java platform. The language derives much of its syntax from C and C++ but has a simpler object model and fewer low-level facilities. Java applications are typically compiled to bytecode (class file) that can run on any Java Virtual Machine (JVM) regardless of computer architecture. Java is a general-purpose, concurrent, class-based, object-oriented language that is specifically designed to have as few implementation dependencies as possible. It is intended to let application developers "write once, run anywhere." Java is currently one of the most popular programming languages in use, particularly for client-server web applications.[9][10] The original and reference implementation Java compilers, virtual machines, and class libraries were developed by Sun from 1995. As of May 2007, in compliance with the specifications of the Java Community Process, Sun relicensed most of its Java technologies under the GNU General Public License. Others have also developed alternative implementations of these Sun technologies, such as the GNU Compiler for Java, GNU Classpath, and Dalvik. There were five primary goals in the creation of the Java language:[20] It should be "simple, object-oriented and familiar" It should be "robust and secure" It should be "architecture-neutral and portable" It should execute with "high performance" It should be "interpreted, threaded, and dynamic"

There is no full form of Java. It's the name of a type of coffee which the developers were drinking while thinking of a suitable name for the new language developed by them and then they named it Java. But some people says that JAVA is "Just Another Virtual Application" because java is provide facility like as virtual applicaton. Java is an object-oriented programming language developed by James Gosling and colleagues at Sun Microsystems in the early 1990s. Unlike conventional languages which are generally designed either to be compiled to native (machine) code, or to be interpreted from source code at runtime, Java is intended to be compiled to a bytecode

It does not have any full form its is spelled as "java" and not "J.A.V.A". It was previously named as OAK but since OAK TECHNOLOGIES (a different organization) has already trademarked the name they were forced to change the name. A brainstorming session was held by the SUN MICROSYSTEMS and came up with three different names as replacement for the name OAK. And they finalize the name as JAVA and a cup of hot tea as their logo.
