WiFi is the technology. You build a wireless network based on the WiFi specifications and principles... there's no such thing as "a WiFi". An Access Point is a physical device which is used to offer WiFi service to a small area. A Hotspot is the area served by an access point. So, you go to a hotspot so you can connect with an access point using WiFi: Hotspot is the where, access point is the what, WiFi is the how.

wifi means wireless fidelity, it can be accessed through a wifi enables mobile or a laptop. A wifi hotspot available means you found a wireless network that can be used for multiple purposes like, browsing, video chat, i.e, a fast connectivity upto 7.2 mbps on nokia n8. A wifi hotspot can be encrypted by many different way, you need to know the password and the encryption type to get any access. A wifi "hotspot" is any place that has wireless Internet. Typically, it's locked down, so you have to pay to connect. The advantage if a hotspot is the speed that your phone will be able to send and receive Internet data. It's faster than your 3G or 4G phone can go. Think of it as a hose for Internet compared to a straw that your phone has automatically wherever you have signal. A wifi hotspot signal only travels a hundred feet or so, so you have to stay in range.
