The term broadband is used to describe a type of data transmission in which a single medium (wire) can carry several channels at once. Cable TV, for example, uses broadband transmission. In contrast, baseband transmission allows only one signal at a time.

Broadband Internet service truly is the most used form of Internet access because of its high access speeds; it is offered in four different forms, DSL (or Digital Subscriber Line), also fiber-optic, cable, and satellite. The old dial-up connection is the only non-broadband internet service available, and even though it is cheaper, most Internet users are moving towards the faster broadband Internet connection.

[1] Prior to the invention of home broadband, dial-up Internet access was the only means by which one could access the Internet and download files such as songs, movies, e-mails, etc. It would take anywhere from 10–30 minutes to download one song (3.5 MB) and over 28 hours to download a movie (700 MB). Dial-up Internet was also considered very inconvenient as it would impair the use of the home telephone line, and users would contemplate whether or not to get a second line, and if doing so was worth the cost.

Broadband is a type of high-speed internet connection that has long surpassed dial-up as the standard way to connect to the internet. Broadband packages come in all shapes and sizes, from ADSL broadband to cable broadband and mobile broadband. A broadband connection, like a telephone line, is never switched off and can be accessed at any time. Compare the best home broadband deals at uSwitch now. Broadband is the UK's most popular form of internet connection and is used by millions of people across the country. Broadband is actually a relative term because it can only be understood in context, i.e. as opposed to narrowband, which was the technology behind dial-up connections. In the days of dial-up, you had to hang up the phone to use the internet. With broadband the frequencies can be split into channels, so you can use the phone on one channel and the internet on another. Broadband is most often in the form of ADSL, which means it is transmitted along BT phone lines, although there are also cable (fibre-optic) broadband connections, and 3G mobile broadband connections (which use phone signal).

hi,lrlghdzx. you have asked a good question about broadband.most of us are using broadband but not ware of it. so i willexplain you. Broadband is a term referred to some technologies that offers high speed internet connectivity depending on framework and environment. In general terms broadband referred to communication technology that can employ different channels of data or data streams by using any medium (air or Physical). Broadband is a term for wide band. It defines the speed of data transfer rate. Broadband internet can transport different kinds of data such as (Audio, Video, Text, Images) at same time as well as streaming videos. Broadband internet also allows the users to download and upload multimedia content at very high speed depending on the speed offered by the Internet Service Provider (ISP). However ISP’s uses different technologies to deliver broadband internet and packages to suit customer requirements. Broadband internet services over fiber optic offers more reliability and high data rates but it is bit expensive as compare to DSL and cable services. These ISP’s offer broadband internet services in different packages and speeds as per the customer requirements. Some of service providers bundle broadband with other services like basic telephony, TV subscriptions and other services depending on the technology they offered. Broadband internet services can also offered by cellular networks to their mobile users to use internet on the mobile devices within the coverage area of the cellular network. These kind of broadband internet services are bit expensive because they rely on the existing cellular network that uses more bandwidth as compare to voice calls. Broadband Internet services over cellular environment can also be purchased in limited packages to save you money. i hope now you understand.

Broadband is defined as a high bandwidth connection to the Internet. Broadband is easier and faster to use than the traditional telephone and modem as information can be sent and downloaded much quicker. Broadband can be provided over your phone line, via cable or via satellite. It involves large volumes of information being carried at high speeds to your PC. This allows websites, text, graphics, music and videos to be experienced in real time. Broadband, therefore, has many features that can be taken advantage of in the home or office: The connection to the Internet is always on, allowing for constant Internet access and no need to dial up. The phone line is unaffected; this means that you can make telephone calls whilst the Internet is on. Normally, you pay a standard monthly fee for unlimited internet access, and you are not charged for the time you spend on the Internet. There are certain broadband products now that also offer pay as you go access. Websites, music and videos can be downloaded at a fast rate. You can take advantage of instant messaging and online high speed interactive games. You can receive uninterrupted real time services, such as Internet radio, streaming video and voice-over-ip, phone calls. Broadband can make using the Internet in the home much easier, faster and more efficient. Most businesses also take advantage of broadband to help in running the company. Working from home is now much more feasible thanks to the high speeds that broadband has to offer.
