Android is one the hottest mobile operating systems available today. It was developed by google and widely adapted the world over since its open source so much so that if the latest research is to be believed over half of the smart phones in usa run on android. Android is based on linux and offers you a great deal of customization in widgets and over 2.65 lakh apps. Android is also used on tablets. Many versions have been released like android froyo, ginger bread, honey comb with the latest entrant called as ice cream sandwich. It has been gaining so much popularity that I find it the most discussed issue in most mobile forums including this one. Cheapest android sets have been launched by mts and you can buy one from them. It has provided strong and brutal competition to nokia, ios and black berry os with its entry and is growing by the minute even as I write. Android is fast, is popular and is already creating a revolution.

Android is a software stack for mobile devices that includes an operating system, middleware and key applications. The Android SDK provides the tools and APIs necessary to begin developing applications on the Android platform using the Java programming language. uses:: Application framework enabling reuse and replacement of components Dalvik virtual machine optimized for mobile devices Integrated browser based on the open source WebKit engine Optimized graphics powered by a custom 2D graphics library; 3D graphics based on the OpenGL ES 1.0 specification (hardware acceleration optional) SQLite for structured data storage Media support for common audio, video, and still image formats (MPEG4, H.264, MP3, AAC, AMR, JPG, PNG, GIF) GSM Telephony (hardware dependent) Bluetooth, EDGE, 3G, and WiFi (hardware dependent) Camera, GPS, compass, and accelerometer (hardware dependent) Rich development environment including a device emulator, tools for debugging, memory and performance profiling, and a plugin for the Eclipse IDE While Android is indeed becoming more and more popular by the minute, it still isn’t the platform businesses rely on for their mobile needs. BlackBerry, because of their robust security services, remains the top dog in this arena. Google is slowly but surely changing that though, and it’s been busy baking in a lot of enterprise-friendly features in recent updates. If you want Android to serve both your personal and business needs, it’s time you visit your IT manager (and do some gentle arm-twisting) to make them see the light. Here are a few tips to make your Android a better business phone.

Android is an open source operating system for mobile phones. It's source code is written mainly in Java but also contains some code in C and C++. The specialty of Android, that is, the feature that makes Android unique of other mobile operating systems, is its OPEN SOURCE CODE. Well, talking about it's use...You can use android only as an operating system.. But the real use would be when you develop applications using its source code which is open for all. In short, you can play with the Operating system according to your own needs. Its the latest and the most exciting trend in Mobile technologies.
