Videocon Infinium Z55 Krypton, which was launched in December 2015, is currently retailing for about Rs 7,500. The handset looks quite decent on paper with a 5 inch HD display, Android Lollipop operating system, 1.3 GHz quad core processor, 1 GB RAM, 8 GB internal storage, 32 GB of expandable storage slot, 2200 mAh battery, 13 Megapixel rear camera and a 5 megapixel front camera.
But at Rs 7,500, there are many handsets with much better specs. So is Videocon Z55 Krypton a good bargain at the price? Let’s find out.
Design
The Videocon Infinium Z55 Krypton comes in black-gold and white-silver colours. We got the black-gold version for review which looks decent but certainly not as good as some of its competitors; infact it looks a bit cheap. The golden colour rim look like metal but it is not. Similarly, the back panel has a glass finishing but it is not glass. Infact, the whole body of the phone is made of plastic. To give the back panel the glass finishing look, the makers of the phone just pasted a transparent plastic panel on a plastic cover. So you have to be very careful while handling this phone, else you may damage this covering and the back panel may totally get ruined.
However, at the same time, there are lot of benefits of the plastic panel as well. Being made of plastic, it is quite light. Also it is not slippery and offers a good grip.
The back panel is removable, under which lies two micro SIM slots and a micro SD card slot. The power and volume rockers are placed on right hand side while the 3.5 mm Headphone jack and the micro USB port are at the top. Curiously, it has an LED light indicator both at the top alongside the 3.5 mm jack and at the front, just above the display. It seems like there is just one indicator that is being used through these two holes – one at the top and another above the display. There are two tiny speaker grills – one above the display and another in the back panel. The front camera lies towards the left of the front panel (above the display). There are three touch buttons, at the bottom of the front panel (under the display). These three buttons are painted in silver colour but are not back lit.
Performance
The Videocon Infinium Z55 Krypton has a 5 inch display which has got high definition Resolution – which is now becoming common to phones in the sub Rs 8,000 price range. And due to HD resolution, the display looked quite pretty. It has decent touch response as well. The display has decent brightness and the scratch resistant Dragontrail X glass which manages to prevent scratches quite well.
The Z55 has the Android 5.1 Lollipop operating system and has the default Android interface which is simple and easy to use. To run the OS, the phone has got 1 GB RAM and a 1.3 GHz quad core processor. The combination is good for usual tasks but while gaming, slight lags are visible. But note that it managed to run the graphics intensive Asphalt 8.
It has 8 GB of internal storage and you can also expand its memory by another 32 GB through a micro SD card.
As I said earlier, the Videocon Infinium Z55 Krypton is a dual SIM phone and it also compatible with 4G networks as well. Besides, it has the usual WiFi, micro USB port, Bluetooth, and WiF Hotspot.
This phone has a 2200 mAh Lithium-Polymer battery that offers decent back up but don’t expect too much and one should always keep a charger handy as it won’t last for more than 12 hours with medium to heavy usage.
The cameras of Infinium Z55 Krypton – 13 megapixel rear and 5 megapixel front – are decent as well for a phone priced at about Rs 7,500. There is an LED flash light in its back panel as well. The rear camera has usual features like Face Beauty, Scene mode, white balance, Geo-tagging, HDR, multi angle view mode, panorama, and motion track mode. There is a PIP mode as well which is available for the front camera as well. Using the PIP mode, you can insert a secondary small picture while capturing an image from one of the cameras. For instance, while taking a selfie you can use the PIP mode to show what lies in front of you. Similarly, while capturing a landscape shot through the rear camera, you can insert your selfie on the same. You can also use the PIP mode while shooting videos.
