Micromax Canvas Xpress 2 First Impression

It offers a better processor and a marginally better battery but lack of 4G definitely will go against the Xpress 2.

Micromax has revealed its newest sensation in the budget smartphone category. Priced at Rs 5,999, the new Micromax Canvas Xpress 2 offers a 1.4 GHz Mediatek MT6592 octa core and 1 GB RAM which is expected to run this 4.4 KitKat based phone smoothly. As per the company, the phone is upgradable to Android Lollipop as well. For storage there is 8 GB of built in storage and it has an expandable storage slot as well.

The smartphone has a 2500 battery which, as per the company, can provide 9.5 hours of talktime. This dual SIM smartphone has 3G, WiFi, GPS, Bluetooth, a port, and a 3.5 mm jack.

Micromax Canvas Xpress 2 comes with an earphone, data cable, USB power adapter and a screen guard. Buyers with Vodafone connection will also get 500 per month for two months with the Xpress 2.

First Impression

The Micromax Canvas Xpress 2 is a beautiful smartphone. The black model which we got has a golden colour side panel. Even the logo, pasted on the back, is in golden colour. The circular rear camera panel also has a golden colour thread around it, that glitters under light. Overall, Micromax’s decision to keep it in black and golden colour was spot on.

Also, it has did the right thing by sticking to the rubberised back panel that not only provides a smooth feeling but helps gripping the phone better. The thick side panels further make it easy to hold the device which is certainly not the slimmest but feels light.

Note that it has a 5 inch display which has Gorilla Glass 3 protection (I tried to scratch the display with finger nails but it is tough indeed). The display isn’t a smudge magnet either. Thankfully Micromax has provided high definition resolution which many competitors of Xpress 2 offers as well. However, I find its maximum brightness a bit on the lower side which may not be enough for bright outdoors, especially in summers.

The worst thing is ofcourse its old operating system – Android KitKat. However, Micromax says it will be upgraded to Android Lollipop. Also it doesn’t have either; this dual SIM offers and 2G connectivity.

The Canvas Xpress 2 though have an octa core processor and to assist that there is 1 GB RAM with which it should not have any issues either while playing high end games or during multitasking.

Verdict

The Micromax Canvas Xpress 2 doesn't offer anything spectacular against Redmi 2, its chief competitor. Especially it doesn't have 4G and offers minor upgrades over Redmi 2 such as an octa core processor and a 2500 battery. Keep checking The Mobile Indian for our final review of the Micromax Xpress 2.
