Sometime back Micromax after one long year had launched a new edition of its popular Knight series – Canvas Knight 2 for Rs 16,299. I used it for few weeks as my primary phone and here is what I have discovered about the Micromax Canvas Knight 2.

What do the specs says

The Micromax Canvas Knight 2 is based on Lollipop operating system and is powered by the 64 bit, Snapdragon 615 octa core processor. There is also good 2 GB DDR3 RAM, 16 GB internal memory and a 32 GB micro SD card slot that beefs up its internal storage exact capacity.

Further, the Micromax Canvas Knight 2 has a 5 inch HD with Corning Gorilla Glass 3; the back panel too has the tough glass covering. The phone has a 13 megapixel rear camera unit that has Sony IMX214 CMOS sensor and a Largan 5P lens. In the front, it offers a 5 megapixel unit with Omnivision OV5648 sensor and the same 5P lens.

Micromax has armed the Canvas Knight 2 with a 2260 battery. It is also powered with Cirus Logic Wolfson Stereo WM8998.

What’s good about it?

The most striking element of Micromax Canvas Knight 2 is its design. The phone we got for review was of champagne gold. It has a metal frame in which even the outer covering of the rear camera (bump) is also moulded which gives it a premium look and feel.
Micromax Canvas Knight 2
Display of Knight 2 is quite vibrant and colour reproduction is good. One will not have any issue in reading from the display even in bright sunlight. This is not one of the slimmest smartphones you will use but at 6.3mm Canvas Knight 2 will certainly find a place among the top slim smartphones’ league.
Micromax Canvas Knight 2
It terms of performance, the Canvas Knight 2 is quite smooth and there was no lag while playing games nor there were any crashes during our review. As far as the battery is concerned one can get 10 hours of backup on a single charge on moderate usage.
Micromax Canvas Knight 2
Both the front and back camera are not the best in class but nevertheless they do a good job where there is plenty of light and are backed up by a decent camera app that offers few useful options.

What’s bad about it?

In Canvas Knight 2 there is a lot of wastage in terms of bezel space. Also, the power and volume rockers are placed on left side which some user might take time in getting used to because in most of the smartphones these are on the right side.
Micromax Canvas Knight 2
Also, the display of Micromax Canvas Knight 2 has high definition and not Full HD which is expected at its price range.
Micromax Canvas Knight 2
Since it has a glass back panel it is a bit slippery which becomes a serious issue especially in Delhi’s current humid environment; infact, I dropped it a couple of times because of that. In the camera app, I also noticed one bug, whenever I was selecting menu in the app auto focus functionality is automatically activated.
Micromax Canvas Knight 2
During the review process, I also noticed as compared to other handset which I was using, I was not getting 4G connectivity regularly on the device whereas the handset showing making available and on extended use it shows signs of heating up though not alarming.

Verdict

The Micromax Canvas Knight 2 is a smartphone for those who want a sexy mid-range smartphone. In the current scenario, it is a decent phone but not the best in the price segment (around Rs 15,000). Its performance and camera output will not disappoint you, but that doesn't mean you will be thrilled with it.
