Honor Holly 2 Plus is a phone to be considered under Rs 10,000.

  • Impressive battery backup
  • Plenty of storage space
  • Decent cameras
  • Quad core processor & 2 GB RAM
  • Plain Jane, not an eyeball grabber
  • HD resolution, many competitors offer full HD resolution
  • Android Lollipop operating system

The Honor Holly 2 Plus was launched in India earlier in January this year. At present, it is available for Rs 8,499. The phone has a 5 inch HD display. It is based on Android Lollipop operating system which runs on the 1.3 GHz Mediatek MT6735P quad core processor. The Holly 2 Plus has 2 GB RAM, 16 GB internal storage, and a 128 GB micro SD card slot.

The highlight of the phone is its huge battery – a 4000 mAh unit. It has two dedicated SIM slots along with a micro SD card slot. It offers 4G connectivity, WiFi (b/g/n), Bluetooth 4.0 LE, 3.5 mm audio jack, FM radio, micro USB port, WiFi Hotspot, and GPS. The Honor Holly 2 Plus has a 13-megapixel rear camera and a 5-megapixel front camera.

The Holly 2 Plus looks just like other budget smartphones from the front. However, it has an interesting pattern on its back panel that creates an impression of different patterns under different lighting conditions.

The phone comes in grey, white and gold colours. The grey model looks quite simple which you may or may not like. I would thus urge you to check out gold and white colour models too.

The phone feels a bit heavy and that is understandable as it has a huge battery. Being a 5-inch device, it is comfortable to hold and fits nicely in palms. The broad side panels further help it grip properly. The back panel of Honor Holly 2 Plus is removable and it has a matte finish. Under the back panel lies two dedicated SIM slots and one micro SD card slot. The battery is non-removable.

The 3.5 mm jack is at the top while the micro-USB port is at the bottom and is sandwiched between two speaker grills. The volume and power controllers are placed close to each other on the right-hand panel.

Honor Holly 2 Plus

All in all, the Honor Holly 2 Plus is a well-designed phone that offers maximum comfort. However, you won't find the oomph factor on the phone and if you are one of those who like to flaunt your device everywhere, you might not like it.

The Holly 2 Plus has a 5-inch display that has high definition resolution which is quite appreciable though few of its competitors do have full HD resolution. The brightness of the display also is just okay for outdoor usage. There were no issues with touch response, though.

The best aspect of Holly 2 Plus is its battery back up. Its 4000 mAh battery comfortably offered more than a day's usage with two active SIM cards, WiFi connectivity for atleast 10 hours, gaming for about half an hour a day, and ofcourse few calls.

Holly 2 Plus is equally good when it comes to storage. It has 16 GB internal storage and a 128 GB micro SD card slot. Though it doesn't have OTG support, the amount of internal storage and micro SD card support would be enough for most.

The Honor Holly 2 Plus also has a capable chipset – a 64 bit 1.3 GHz quad-core processor that runs the phone quite ably with the help of 2 GB RAM. The combination is quite powerful and allows playing high-end games. Hopefully, Honor would soon release the Android Marshmallow update for the phone soon.

Here I would like to highlight the EMUI user interface of the phone which is quite simple and is bereft of bloatware. It has no app drawer and everything is on the home page itself. The Quick Setting and notification panels can be accessed by pulling from the top. It offers several screen savers and an additional SOS feature.

I also liked the fact that the phone has two dedicated SIM slots as well as micro SD card slot and not just a single hybrid SIM slot which is now common to most next-gen phones. It has also all the common connectivity features like WiFi, Bluetooth, micro USB port, GPS and 3.5 mm jack.

The Holly 2 Plus also has a good 13-megapixel rear auto focus camera. It has F2.0 aperture and it focuses swiftly. Even from close quarters, it faces no issues. The front 5-megapixel camera also managed to produce accurate colours. Though the sharpness was missing a bit but considering the price of the phone, I don't have much to complain about.

The Honor Holly 2 Plus' overall appearance and HD resolution puts it in disadvantage in comparison with some new age devices who boast the latest Android Marshmallow OS and full HD resolution. However, it is a good all-rounder as it impresses in many departments including battery backup, storage, processing power, and camera.
