The first thing you will notice about Elife S5.5 is its waistline. It is just 5.6 mm thin.
Gionee, a Chinese brand, had entered the Indian market last year and today the company has claimed that it has garnered two per cent market share of Indian smartphone market.
Going forward Gionee plans to capture 5 per cent smartphone market by 2015 and to do so they plan to launch high end and mid end smartphones in the country at regular interval. Today in pursuit of further expanding in portfolio it launched world's slimmest octa core smartphone Elife S5.5 priced at Rs 22,999.
At the launch of Gionee Elife S5.5 we spent some time with the device and here is our first impression about the device.
The first thing you will notice about Elife S 5.5 is its waistline. It is just 5.6 mm thin. This is almost 50 per cent thinner than Samsung Galaxy S 5. Its side panels are made of metal and the rest of the body is made of glass and it looks quite stunning.
On the display front, Elife S5.5 features a 5-inch 1080 x 1920-pixel Super AMOLED display. The picture quality was good and I didn't see any pixilation and viewing at different angles was not angle.
As far as operating system is concerned Elife S5.5 is shipping with Android 4.2 Jelly Bean and has a customised user interface on top of it which looks similar iOS. There is no update regarding when it will get Android KitKat update.
The Gionee Elife S5.5 sports an octa-core MediaTek MT6592 chip running at 1.7GHz supported by 2GB RAM. While browsing the phone I felt slight lag and it may be due to a software issue. In terms of memory, the Elife S5.5 has 16 GB built in and their option to expand it further using a microSD card.
Gionee Elife S5.5 has a 13-megapixel rear camera and a 5-megapixel front camera. The main camera also supports 1080p video recording. The picture quality of both the cameras was good and we will talk more about the camera in our detailed review.
