Kobo launches four e-book readers in India

It has also announced special Diwali pricing on these e-book readers.

Kobo, in association with Indian booksellers Crossword, WHSmith and electronics retailer Croma, today announced the launch of four tablets, namely Kobo Touch, Kobo Glo, Kobo Arc and Kobo Aura HD.

In view of the Diwali festival, Kobo has also announced that the tablets will be available for a special price till November 3. So the Kobo Arc will be available till November 3 for Rs 9,999 against its regular price of Rs 11, 999. Similarly, Kobo Touch can be purchased at Rs 6,999 though it is priced at Rs 7,999. Kobo Glo and Kobo Aura HD can be purchased at Rs 10,999 and Rs 13,999 respectively.

Also, free or discounted ebook offers will also be available with the purchase of Kobo devices or with the download of a Kobo for a limited time.

Kobo Touch has an anti-glare 6 inch Pearl E Ink touchscreen which, according to the company, “offers the closest experience to reading print on paper and is easy on the eyes – even in bright sunlight”. The screen has 800×600 pixels resolution. The 10 mm thick tablet has 2 internal storage and a 32 GB micro card slot. It is said to provide one month of battery life, but Kobo has not discussed it in detail about battery size. The and WiFi connectivity based e-book reader has Kobo Desktop software and supports a multiple file formats including Epub, PDF, and Mobi.

Kobo Glo eReader too has a 6 inch display but the touchscreen comes with better resolution (1024×768 pixels) than Kobo Touch. The 1 GHz processor based Kobo Glo weighs 185 grams and comes with WiFi, micro USB, 2 GB internal storage, 32 GB micro SD card slot, and support for various file formats including EPub and PDF. Kobo Glo said to provide over 1 month of battery back up if WiFi is turned off.

Kobo Arc comes with a 7 inch IPS display with high definition (1280×800 pixels) resolution. The 11.5 mm thick e-book reader weighs 364 grams and has a 1.3 front facing camera that is said to be capable of recording HD videos. It is armed with a 1.5 GHz dual core processor and 1 GB RAM. The 4.1.1 operating system based e-book reader comes in 16 GB, 32 GB and 64 GB models; but this said model we expect has 16 GB storage.

Kobo Aura HD has a 6.8 inch Pearl E Ink touchscreen with full HD resolution (1440×1080 pixels). It is armed with a 1 GHz processor, 4 GB internal storage, 32 GB expandable storage slot, micro USB, WiFi, and up to 2 months battery life. It is 11.7 mm thick and weighs 240 grams.
