Idea to charge a single price for 1GB of 2G, 3G and 4G mobile data

Idea claims that this will ensure less confusion and will pose better clarity in users mind.

In an attempt to unify different pricing for different packs across 2G, and networks, Idea has today announced that by the end of March 2017, the telecom operator will charge one single price for 1GB or above irrespective of whether it’s operating on 2G, 3G or 4G network. Idea claims that this will ensure less confusion and will pose better clarity in users mind.

Justifying this move, Sashi Shankar, Chief Marketing Officer, Idea Cellular, “Idea’s simplified data pricing will ensure data recharges across all technologies are available at the same price point. The customer can choose the recharge price basis usage and volume available in the pack, without having to worry about the platform the customer’s device is logged in.”

Aditya Birla Group, which is the parent company of Idea Cellular, is reportedly in talks with Vodafone India for a possible merger to take up the telecom game in India. Ever since Jio’s inception, telecom players in India have been struggling to cope up with the free services and as a result of their latest Jio Prime membership, all the major telecom operators released their own counter plans. If you are not aware, under the Reliance Jio Prime membership, one can continue availing all the benefits under the Jio Happy New Year offer by paying just Rs 303 per month after enrolling to Prime membership for Rs 99.
