Huawei Mate 9 Android 8.0 Oreo Beta program starts

The Huawei Mate 9 was originally launched with Android 7.0 Nougat operating system with Emotion UI 5.0 skin on top.

Recently, Huawei Mate 9 was spotted on GeekBench benchmarking website with the Oreo operating system. Now the Chinese company has launched an Oreo beta program for the Mate 9. Being a beta program, the software is not yet fully optimized for the device and users may experience some bugs till a stable version is released. The beta update will not have support for full features for the device. The Huawei Mate 9 was originally launched with Android 7.0 Nougat operating system with Emotion UI 5.0 skin on top.

The beta update is currently only available for units with firmware version MHA-L29C432B194. Furthermore, initially, only 250 users will get the opportunity to test the Android 8.0 Oreo for the Mate 9 device. For the beta program, you have to first download the Beta Friendly User Test from the Huawei’s official website. After installing the update, you have to sign in with your Huawei ID. Selected users will receive the Oreo beta over-the-air (OTA). Huawei mentions the beta program will end on November 3. It is expected that the company plans to release the final version of Android Oreo for Mate 9 by the end of the year.

For the specs, Mate 9 comes with a huge 5.9 inches Full 1920 x 1080 display. On the inside, Mate 9 sports a 2.4 GHz Octa-Core Kirin 960 processor with Mali-G71 MP8 for graphics and gaming. The device comes with 64 internal storage which is expandable up to 256GB irrespective of whether it is a Dual device or not.

Coming to the camera, Huawei Mate 9 comes with dual-camera set up one being a 12-megapixel sensor and the other one being a 20-megapixel sensor with f/2.2 aperture, OIS, 2x zoom, Leica optics, phase detection & laser autofocus, dual-LED (dual tone) Flash. At the front, there is an 8-megapixel shooter with f/1.9 and 1080p video recording capabilities. For the battery, Huawei has given a 4000 mAh battery which is non-removable. The device comes running on Android 7.0 Nougat out of the box with EMUI 5.0 on top. Connectivity options such as Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac, v4.2, GPS, etc are there with USB connector which supports quick charging.
