After Huawei, another Chinese handset player, ZTE has now introduced four devices including a tablet and a smartphone that support LTE or 4G services. Among the newly announced devices include two dongles, namely MF820S2 and MF91S dongles, which are multi-standard USB modem and UFi (WiFi hotspot) that supports LTE FDD/LTE TDD/TD-SCDMA /EDGE networks.
While in India we have only Airtel's 4G network (TDD LTE) as of now, we will soon have networks from Reliance Industries, Aircel, and Tikona. However, there are still no devices like the tablets and smartphones that support these networks.
Fortunately, Huawei is set to launch tablets and smartphones with LTE support in India by December. And with these ZTE devices the availability of LTE products in India seems to be taken care of.
There is no word though on when these dongles will be launched in India. But traditionally ZTE has tied-up with operators to sell co-branded products like Reliance 3G tab, Idea Blade smartphone, MTS mTag etc. Hence, we expect that these devices will also be introduced when operators start rolling out their 4G operation in sufficient number of cities by the end of this year. We have also sent our questions to ZTE to know about their plans for India, and we hope that will revert soon, we will keep you posted on that.
According to ZTE, the MF820S2 is the world's first LTE FDD/LTE TDD/TD-SCDMA/EDGE multi-standard data card. It features LTE TDD 68 MB download (DL) speed, LTE FDD 100 MB download speed, USB Rotator (270 degrees rotation), and internal antenna. It is compatible with major operators and network systems around the world. With customised networks at different locations, it provides flexibility for travelers.
Another global first multi-mode device in the line-up is the MF91S portable UFi, supporting LTE FDD/LTE TDD/TD-SCDMA/EDGE standards. Weighing only 105g and running on Li-ion 2300mAh.
The newly launched ZTE V96A tablet features a dual-core 1.5-GHz processor, 10-inch high definition capacitive screen and dual cameras (5.0-mega pixel rear camera and 2.0-mega pixel front camera).
