HTC Desire look alike for Rs 6,000

HTC Desire's clone costs Rs 6,000 – less than one fourth the price of the original. It has a 3.7 inch display, and is powered by the latest version of Android, 2.2 Froyo.

If you had planned to buy HTC Desire, powered by Android 2.2 Froyo, but the price tag was a deterrent, there is some good news.

HTC Desire's clone costs Rs 6,000 less than one fourth the price of the original which is Rs 27,000.

A senior executive of China-based TopWise communication told Telecom Yatra, "We can manufacture a handset model which is similar to HTC Desire. It will have same good looks and performance."

When enquired about the price he said, "It depends on the size of the shipment but if I have to tell about the price of a single handset it will be roughly around Rs 6,000."

He also said, "If we get an order for manufacturing HTC Desire look alikes we can produce three lakh pieces per month for distributors."

Paolo Rosa, who is the head of the promotion division of International Telecommunication Union, said in argument against popular belief, "Most of the handsets manufactured in China pass through a stringent test of quality and standards so we cannot label all cheap handsets from China as inferior in quality."

He added, "People importing handsets from Chinashould carry out their own checks before taking delivery of the mobiles so that they are sure about its quality and their customers are happy with their handsets."

The HTC Desire clone has a 3.7 inch display, and is powered by a 1 GHz processor and Android 2.2 Froyo. It has 576 MB of RAM and the option of using two SIM cards. The smartphone connects via Wi-Fi and 3G.

At present HTC Desire's clone handset in not available in the Indian market as the company is exploring possibility of partnership with Indian handset manufactures and mobile distributors.
