Reliance Jio yesterday announced the Happy New Year Offer extending its free services till 31st March 2017.
Yesterday, Reliance Jio chairman Mr. Mukesh Ambani announced the Jio 'Happy New Year Offer' which essentially extends the free calls, SMS, 4G internet service available under Welcome Offer, till March 31st, 2017. Soon after the announcement, Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) claimed that it will examine the new offer which is all set to kick off on 1st, January 2017.
TRAI Chairman RS Sharma told PTI - "We will look into it. Every tariff that is filed before us is examined. We will come up with our response at appropriate time,"
As per Reliance Jio's 'Happy New Year Offer', users subscribing to Reliance Jio starting 4th December will get free calls, SMS, 4G data and a bunch of Jio applications till 31st March 2017. However, there are some changes, so check out all that you need to know about the new Jio Happy New Year Offer. Further, users under Jio Welcome Offer will also be automatically migrated to Happy New Year Offer starting January 1, 2017.
"All our 52 million plus Jio Welcome Offer users will continue to enjoy the unlimited benefits of Jio Welcome Offer till 31st December 2016. And on New Year's Day, all Jio Welcome Offer users will be automatically signed-up for the Jio Happy New Year Offer as well." - said Mr. Mukesh Ambani.
Earlier, TRAI ordered Reliance Jio to dismiss the Welcome Offer on December 4, exactly 3 months after it was launched commercially. However, Reliance Jio already promised its customers to provide the free services till 31 December 2016 at the Annual General Meeting. As a result, Reliance Jio announced that users subscribing for Jio SIM after 3rd December won't be eligible for the Welcome Offer.
Continuing from there, Reliance Jio has introduced the Happy New Year Offer starting December 4, 2016. The reason behind this extension was revealed by a Spokesperson from Jio who claimed that Reliance Jio wants to ensure that the network is fully functional and usable before it is launched with all the tariffs. Going by that, it does make sense as even today, people use Reliance Jio as their secondary network only to for the free 4G data.
