Sightings confirm Nokia's plan to re-enter the smartphone market in 2017. Specs indicate a strong bid in the mass market segment.
Earlier this week, Nokia officially revealed its plans to re-enter the smartphone industry. A slide in its presentation at Capital Markets Day had its plans for the year 2016,2017 and 2018, in which a bullet under the year 2017 read - 'Nokia brand's return to smartphones'.
In the past there were many report and leaks related to Nokia's Android smartphones with the Nokia D1C smartphone among the most talked about phone due to its frequent leaks. Last month, we saw leaks about the Nokia P1 smartphone. Earlier in August, two of the Nokia Android powered smartphones were found listed on Geekbench website with model name Nokia 5320 and Nokia RM-1490. Now three more entry level Android smartphones named Nokia Pixel, Ara, and C2-00 PureView have been spotted on Geekbench.
As per specs mentioned there, the Nokia Pixel will be running on the Android 7.0.1 Nougat operating system. It will come with the 1.19 GHz dual-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 200 (MSM8610) processor, along with Adreno 302 GPU and 1GB of RAM. The phone scored 404 points in the single-core test and 661 points in the multi-core test.
The 2nd device in the same economy category is Nokia Ara which as per Geekbench listing comes with Android 5.1.1 Lollipop operating system. Like Nokia Pixel this too is powered by a 1.19 GHz dual-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 200 (MSM8610) processor, along with Adreno 302 GPU and 1GB of RAM. Here the phone scored 400 points in single-core test and 664 points in the multi-core test.
The 3rd device, named Genymotion Nokia C2-00 PureView, runs on Android 6.0 Marshmallow operating system. It comes equipped with 2.99GHz Intel Pentium G3220 single-core processor, along with 1.5GB of RAM. This handset scored 2523 points in the single-core test and 2428 points in the multi-core test.
Meanwhile, new rumours of Nokia's flagship Android smartphone have been surfaced online. According to the latest leak on Weibo, the upcoming Nokia flagship will boast metal unibody design and could have two variants, one with 5.2 inch display and another with 5.5 inch display. Both the variants will sport QHD (2560 x 1440 pixel) resolution. The smartphone is also expected to come with a powerful rear camera that will feature Carl Zeiss optics and could be equipped with Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 SoC. Further as per leak, the smartphone will have IP68 certification for water and dust resistance.
Apart from Nokia, Samsung and LG are also reportedly working on foldable smartphones.
The smartphone will go on sale starting 19th January and will be made available exclusively through Jingdong.
The smartphone is expected to sport a 24-megapixel rear camera with OIS (optical image stabilization).
HMD global has also hinted about launching a new smartphone during MWC 2017.
At the time of the announcement, Nokia only showed up the Black variant.
As per the latest reports, the Finnish company is reportedly working on its own AI-powered assistant named 'Viki' which the company is expected to integrate with its future launches.
The alleged Nokia E1 has already got the 3C certification in China.
The smartphone also houses a fingerprint scanner, which is embedded on its home button.
Earlier, the company was expected to launch five Nokia-branded smartphones this year, one of the being the Nokia D1C.
As per some reports, the Nokia TA-1000 could be launched as Nokia E1.
