Amazon India launched Amazon Prime back in July 2016 but it was missing the famous Amazon Prime Video. Until now, the website confirmed that it will be coming soon to India but didn't reveal any time frame.
Today, a tweet from The Grand Tour team confirmed that Amazon Prime Video will be coming next month to India along with 200 other countries. The tweet was further shared by Amazon Prime Video India account which led to this report. As of now Amazon Prime in India come with subscriptions starting at Rs 50 per month or Rs 499 per year. This subscription, as of now, gives you free shipping, special Prime only deals, and discounts. Whereas, elsewhere you also get free unlimited Prime Video viewing, unlimited reading, and Amazon's own original shows.
Further, Amazon India hasn't confirmed that if these subscriptions will include Prime Video and Reading or not. In all probability, these subscriptions are likely to include the Prime Video service as its the case with rest of the world.
In January 2016, Netflix came to India along with 128 other countries. Netflix has targeting strategy different from Amazon Prime where it focuses more on moneyed customers. Amazon Prime Video, on the other hand, concentrated more on value for money which is why it is likely to work more in a country like India. Also, recent rumors have suggested that Amazon is also looking to partner various Indian movie studios and get the rights to air IPL matches also.
