This feature will only be introduced to territories where an internet connection and speeds are limited.
In a country like India where minimum broadband speed is still 512 kbps, offline streaming has come to the rescue. Google, as a matter of fact, introduced it on YouTube where users could take the videos offline and watch it afterwards without any internet connection. With Netflix being in India for quite some time now, it seems like the famous streaming service is not just sitting and watching the show. If recent reports are to be believed, Netflix may soon bring offline streaming functionality to various markets where high internet connectivity and speeds are not present. For those who are not aware, Netflix came in India back in January 2016.
"Now as we've launched in more territories…they all have different levels of broadband speeds and Wi-Fi access. So in those countries, they have adapted their behaviours to be much more of a downloading culture. So in those emerging territories, it starts to become a little more interesting.
"We still think for the developed world our thesis has been true but I think as we get into more and more (of the) undeveloped world and developing countries, that we want to find alternatives for people to use Netflix easily," - said Ted Sarandos, Chief Content Officer, Netflix.
This becomes necessary as earlier Netflix was available only in countries with high internet speeds and with its worldwide expansion, the company has already started testing the same but Sarandos doesn't confirm as to when is Netflix planning to introduce the offline feature.
Nevertheless, it's Good News for people who though subscribed to Netflix but were struggling with playback issues due to slow internet connections. As mentioned above, this feature will only be introduced to territories where an internet connection and speeds are limited. So don't expect it to come to countries like USA, Australia etc.
In India, Netflix's basic plan costs Rs 600 while the standard version and the premium plans cost Rs 650 and Rs 800 respectively.
Netflix which has a collection of both movies and TV shows has over 69 million subscribers.
