The app in Android and iOS versions has been improved with additional features along with the major redesign. Not visible in India yet.
Cab service provider, Uber has announced the launch of its new rider app which it claims will allow users to browse the app more efficiently and easily. Uber says that the app has been improved with additional features along with a major redesign. The new app is now rolling out globally on iOS and Android devices.
In a blog post, Uber explained that the new app is now capable to learn from a user's routine. So frequent riders will see "shortcuts" that predict where one could be headed. This means riders can get moving with just one tap.
Yuhki Yamashita, Senior Product Manager at Uber in his blogpost said "We designed the new Uber app around you -and our core beliefs that time is a luxury and that the information you need should always be at your fingertips. Gone are the days when everyone's app looks the same. The new Uber experience is reimagined around a simple question-"Where to?". After all, you use Uber to get somewhere-or to someone. And by starting with your destination, we can tailor the journey to you."
The app also features calendar integration with Uber app, so once you connect, all meeting and appointments will automatically appear as "shortcuts." A new feature called as People search will also be in the app which will enable users to set their destination to a person instead of a place. For this feature, users can sync their contacts with the Uber app, type their name into the search bar and once they've shared their location, the rider can head to the person's place.
Besides this, the usual options between UberGo, UberX Uber Pool etc remain, maintaining continuity with the existing version. For users, the big question might be the access the app gets to their calendar, besides the push in familiarity to a new high with the 'person' option as a destination, instead of places. We will of course be watching out for the first news report on a divorce where either of the parties quote the Uber trip records to make a point on their partner going off track:)
