Apple Airpods shipments deferred, India availability not revealed

Apple's Airpods were to start shipping from October 2016 but now reports suggest that the shipment is delayed to January 2017 in US.

During the launch of the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus, Apple justified its decision to remove the headphone jack and showcased a new pair of wireless earphones known as 'Airpods'. These Airpods were to start shipping from October 2016 but now reports suggest that the Airpods are unlikely to ship out before January 2017. In India, Airpods will cost you about Rs 15,400 and there has been no information about when it will be available here.

Acccording to a report in Economic News Daily, Inventec, the primary manufacturer of Apple's Airpods, is likely to see a boost in revenue in January 2017 indicating Apple's plan to ship the Airpods sometime then. An Apple spokesperson further told TechCrunch that while the response has been pretty impressive, but Apple will not start shipping the Airpods until it's ready for customers.

A saving grace could be a report in AppleInsider which confirms that though Apple has missed the October deadline, the company will not delay it beyond January 2017. Interestingly, some retailers already have a bunch of demo pairs and are ready to be showcased as demo units for people to come and experience the Airpods.

Apple claims that the wireless Airpods contain three unique W1 chips for high quality media playback with reliable connection. These earphones have infrared sensors which detect when the Airpods are fitted in your ear and plays content accordingly. Each Airpod can last for about 5 hours and is to be charged by placing it in its tiny charging case which can provide a battery backup of about 24 hours.

Removing the 3.5 mm headphone jack created more space, which Apple claims helped it increase battery size. However, at Rs 15,400, the Apple Airpods is not an ideal solution for your music listening needs. In the box, Apple includes a pair of lightning earphones and a lightning to 3.5 mm adapter as well which is surely a life saver for those who are not in favor of using lightning or wireless Airpods anytime soon.

Besides the Airpods, Apple's iPhone 7 Plus has also been facing shortage issues especially in India where the smartphone is out of stock at both online and offline stores.
