The overall global shipments increased by 6% in Q3 2016 when compared to same period last year with Android being the gainer and iOS being the loser again.
Based on the latest reports by market research firm Strategy Analytics, Android has bumped up 4% in terms of global market share in Q3 2016. The market share stood at around 88% (87.5% to be exact) in Q3 2016 as compared to 84.1% in Q3 2015.
Contrary to Android, Apple's iOS lost its market share and came down from 13.6% in Q3 2015 to 12.1% in Q3 2016.
Neil Mawston, Executive Director at Strategy Analytics said, "Android's domination of global smartphone shipments remained strong in Q3 2016, with a record 88 percent of all smartphones now running Google's OS. Android's gain came at the expense of every major rival platform. Apple iOS lost ground to Android and dipped to 12 percent share worldwide in Q3 2016, due to a lackluster performance in China and Africa." He further commented on sudden disappearance of BlackBerry and Microsoft Windows OS due to strategic shifts and Tizen for limited product line.
Coming to the smartphone shipments, the overall global shipments increased by 6% in Q3 2016 when compared to same period last year. Android witnessed a year on year growth of about 10.3% from 298 million units to 328.6 million units. Here again, Apple lost about 5.2% of shipments from 48 million units to 45.5 million units. Other platforms which include BlackBerry and Windows OS also lost quite a bit from 8.2 million units to 1.3 million units making an year on year loss of about 84.1%.
Director at Strategy Analytics, Linda Sui said - "Global smartphone shipments grew 6 percent annually from 354.2 million units in Q3 2015 to 375.4 million in Q3 2016. This was the smartphone industry's fastest growth rate for a year. Modest smartphone regrowth is being supported by emerging markets with relatively low smartphone penetration across Asia and Africa Middle East, particularly countries such as India and South Africa."
The company claims that the AGON X Series is strictly for gamers.
