From once being a leader in mobile industry to telecom equipment supplier, its been a roller-coaster ride for Nokia.
Its been long since we saw a Nokia device after Microsoft decided to take over the company and rebrand the smartphones in its own name. Interestingly, earlier this week a Nokia device with the name Nokia D1C popped up over the internet. The specifications, according to the rumours, stated a 64-bit Qualcomm Snapdragon 430 Octa-Core processor coupled with 3GB RAM, Adreno 505 GPU , 32GB internal storage and a full HD screen. Looks like a mid range Android handset right?
Yes, we guessed the same but later on GFX Bench revealed that the device is actually a tablet and will sport a 13.8 inch display. Nevertheless, rumours about a couple of Snapdragon 820 SoC powered handset starting coming up.
Following this, Nokia announced that it will be holding a Keynote event at Mobile World Congress 2017 which is when news about company's comeback started appearing over the internet. But there has been no official confirmation about the same so it is better to hold ourselves back before we celebrate Nokia's comeback.
Interestingly, Nokia has confirmed that its CEO Rajeev Suri will deliver the Keynote speech at MWC 2017 which has further spiced up the rumours. But, Suri might not end up launching any comeback phones.
A possibility that this Keynote won't witness any new launches is hinted by looking at the various fellow Keynote speakers which include AT&T Entertainment Group CEO John Stankey, Kaspersky Lab Chairman and CEO Eugene Kaspersky, and Niantic CEO John Hanke. For those who are not aware, currently, Nokia supply telecom equipment to various telecom operators. Yet, Nokia holding a keynote event at MWC 2017 sound promising. As mentioned before, Nokia might reveal two new smartphones apart from the Nokia D1C tablet. The two smartphones are expected to come in 5.2 inch screen and 5.5 inch screen with 2K Quad HD resolution on both. Both the smartphones are also rumoured to be IP68 certified water and dust proof just like we saw in Samsung Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge.
Earlier it was Nokia 8 smartphone which was expected to be unveiled at MWC 2017.
Apart from Nokia, Samsung and LG are also reportedly working on foldable smartphones.
The smartphone will go on sale starting 19th January and will be made available exclusively through Jingdong.
The smartphone is expected to sport a 24-megapixel rear camera with OIS (optical image stabilization).
HMD global has also hinted about launching a new smartphone during MWC 2017.
At the time of the announcement, Nokia only showed up the Black variant.
As per the latest reports, the Finnish company is reportedly working on its own AI-powered assistant named 'Viki' which the company is expected to integrate with its future launches.
The alleged Nokia E1 has already got the 3C certification in China.
The smartphone also houses a fingerprint scanner, which is embedded on its home button.
Earlier, the company was expected to launch five Nokia-branded smartphones this year, one of the being the Nokia D1C.
