After Reliance Jio and Airtel, now Idea Cellular has announced the roll out of 'e-KYC' based activation for both Prepaid and Postpaid connections. The service as of now is available in 22 circles. This roll out has been possible due to successful pilot by Idea in Delhi circle, in association with UIDAI, and as per the DoT guidelines.
As per e-KYC users can avail instant connection using 'Adhaar' card number and buy submitting biometrics (iris/fingerprint). Reliance Jio announced it on September 5 for instant activation of Jio SIM. Yesterday, Airtel also introduced e-KYC process as well.
Speaking about the initiative, Navanit Narayan, chief service delivery officer, Idea Cellular said, "The roll-out of paperless and completely digital mode of customer acquisition based on 'Aadhaar', is in line with Idea's customer centric approach. It will ensure quicker customer acquisition and greater convenience for new customers. This is also a step towards achieving a greener environment through reduced paper usage and is key to enabling the vision of Digital India by facilitating many e-Governance services to be rolled out in future".
Idea Cellular claims that now users can walk to any Idea Company Retail Store or My Idea outlet and can get access to instant mobile connection without any complex documents. The e-KYC though is not applicable to bulk, outstation and foreign customers.
