Samsung currently offers 12 smartphones in the Rs 5,000-Rs 15,000 range.
Samsung, which is set to launch the Galaxy Note 3 tomorrow, is reportedly planning to launch two affordable handsets this month as well. According to the report of PTI, Samsung will offer the mid-segment handsets with local language support to attract the non-English speaking people in India.
"We will be launching two new smart phones priced for the mid-segment market. Every phone from Samsung will have nine vernacular language options," Samsung Country Head (Mobile Business) Vineet Taneja was quoted as saying by PTI. Though he did not mentioned prices of the smartphones, PTI quoted sources as saying that the devices would be priced between Rs 5,000-15,000.
It is to be noted that recently, last month Samsung had announced the availability of regional language user interface and applications for its Indian customers. As per Samsung, Samsung smartphones can choose user interface out of any nine Indian languages that include Hindi, Punjabi, Bengali, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi and Gujarati. At that time, the Indian languages based user interface was supported on Galaxy Grand, Galaxy S4, and Tab 3 only but Samsung had promised to enhance the availability of regional language content to its more affordable handsets starting with Galaxy Star within this month.
Samsung currently offers about 20 smartphones priced between Rs 5,000 (Samsung Star) and Rs 39,000 (Galaxy S4) of which 12 smartphones are in the Rs 5,000-15,000 range, namely Galaxy Star, Galaxy Pocket Neo, Galaxy Music Duos, Galaxy Ace, Galaxy Y, Galaxy Young, Galaxy Fame, Galaxy Ace Duos, Galaxy Y Duos, Galaxy S Duos, Galaxy S Advance, and Galaxy Core.
Tizen mobile platform is based on the Linux Kernel and is being backed by Samsung and Intel together.
Samsung had recently announced its first Tizen OS based smartphone, Tizen Z1, in India for Rs 5,700.
Samsung Galaxy Grand Neo Plus looks like an upgraded version of Galaxy Grand Neo. It will be based on Android KitKat and will have a 5 inch WVGA display.
