Both the phones are priced at Rs 15,990 but one of them is certainly better than other, Read the full comparison to find out.
HTC yesterday launched its new lower mid range smartphone - HTC Desire 10 Lifestyle, in India at Rs 15,990. The device will be available exclusively on Amazon India. Meanwhile a couple of days ago Samsung launched the Galaxy On8 at the same price point which will be available via Flipkart during the Big Billion Days Sale. Given the similar Price and specifications, Let's compare their on-paper specifications before we get the actual hands on experience of both the devices.
Samsung Galaxy On8 sports a metal uni-body with diamond cut metal frames and brushed metal finish at the back. Up front, there is 5.5 inch full HD Super AMOLED display. There is no finger print scanner on both the devices so that's a bit of a bummer. On the other hand, HTC Desire 10 Lifestyle also comes with a metal body design with distinctive metal lines running through the rear side of the phone. The white version has gold coloured lines while the black variant has silver coloured lines. Up front, there is a 5.5 inch 720p IPS LCD display on the Desire 10 Lifestyle with Gorilla Glass Protection. The display is surely much better on the Galaxy On8.
The Galaxy On8 is powered by an Octa-Core 1.6 GHz Exynos 7580 processor and 3GB of RAM that run this Android 6.0 Marshmallow smartphone. It has a customised interface - Samsung TouchWiz UI. Whereas, the HTC Desire 10 Lifestyle packs a Quad-Core 1.4 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 chipset with Adreno 305 and 3GB RAM. It too has Android 6.0 Marshmallow OS and a customised UI - Sense 8. The chipset on the Galaxy On8 seems to be better with higher clock speed but the Android skin on HTC Desire 10 Lifestyle will be better if you ask us.
Regarding the storage, the Samsung Galaxy On8 comes with a 16GB of internal storage which can be expanded up to 128GB via a micro SD card. While, HTC Desire 10 Lifestyle comes with 32GB internal storage which is expandable up to 256GB with a dedicated micro SD card. Both the devices have Dual SIM slot. However, while the Desire 10 Lifestyle has a separate dedicated micro SD card slot, there has been no information about the same regarding the Galaxy On8 at the time this comparison was written.
In the camera department though, things are pretty close. Both the phones feature 13 megapixel rear facing camera with f/2.2 aperture and LED flash. Both the cameras are only capable of recording 1080p videos. The front camera is 5 megapixels on both the devices with f/2.2 aperture on Galaxy On8 and f/2.8 aperture on HTC Desire 10 Lifestyle. The Galaxy On8 also sports a front facing LED flash for selfies. Well, the camera look pretty similar on paper but they can never be judged on paper as a lot of things such as Image Sensor, Image Processing matters in the actual test of camera performance of a smartphone.
In the battery department, Galaxy On8 leads with a 3300 mAh battery when compared to HTC Desire 10 Lifestyle which has only 2700 mAh battery.
Rest of the connectivity features such as Wi-Fi, Bluetooth v4.1, GPS, etc. are present on both the devices. Also, the Galaxy On8 sports a USB Type-C port while the Desire 10 Lifestyle have a regular Micro USB 2.0 which can be another con for some users as USB Type-C is really trending these days.
Samsung Galaxy On8 looks pretty solid in front of HTC Desire 10 Lifestyle with a much better screen, battery life and some minor features here and there. The camera is yet to be tested on both the devices but Samsung's reputation in terms of the sensors and image processing is superior to that of HTC's. Overall, Samsung Galaxy On8 seems to be better device among the two if you consider our opinion. At the end of the day though, it all comes down to personal preference.
