Can Lenovo Z2 Plus dethrone OnePlus 3 as flagship killer?
Lenovo announced the Z2 Plus last week and it is now exclusively available on Amazon India. Lenovo Z2 Plus is essentially Lenovo's ZUK Z2 which has already been launched in some parts of the world. The phone is priced at Rs 19,999 for 4GB RAM variant and Rs 17,999 for 3GB RAM variant. It is now the cheapest smartphone in the market with Snapdragon 820 chipset.
OnePlus has gone for a metallic uni-body design this time which clearly indicates how fast the company is growing. But, the phone is much thinner due to which we have a not so appealing camera hump. Lenovo Z2 Plus is a more compact device with glass on both at front and back. So the device is quite slippery and a finger print magnet which is why Lenovo is also offering a back cover.
Lenovo Z2 Plus features a 5.0 inch 1080p IPS LCD display which offers 441 ppi pixel density. The Z2 Plus also sports a capacitive single button with fingerprint scanner. Also there is no other button so this unique home button can perform several actions. On the other hand, OnePlus 3 comes with a 5.5 inch optic AMOLED screen with 1080 x 1920 pixel resolution. There is also a fingerprint scanner in its front with two more capacitive touch buttons. Though there is also an option to switch between capacitive and onscreen buttons.
Both the smartphones come with Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 chipset which has a quad core processor clocked at 2.15 GHz and Adreno 530 GPU for graphics. Lenovo Z2 Plus comes with 4GB RAM and we get a whopping 6GB RAM in OnePlus 3. Well, an extra 2GB RAM in OnePlus 3 will not make much difference in day-to-day usage. Also we have to keep in mind the extra money we have to put in for OnePlus 3. Both the devices run on Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow with expected update of Android 7.0 Nougat. The OnePlus 3 runs on Oxygen OS which resembles a lot to stock Android. While, Lenovo Z2 Plus runs on ZUI 2.0 interface. Lenovo also has introduced a built-in health app with the name U-Health which is a lot similar to S-Health from Samsung or the Health app from Apple.
In the camera department, things are again pretty much on the same page. OnePlus 3 has a 16 megapixel rear-facing camera with f/2.0 aperture, OIS, and LED flash. Lenovo Z2 Plus sports a 13 megapixel back camera with f/2.2 aperture, phase detection autofocus and LED flash. The front camera on both the devices are of 8 megapixel resolution and come with f/2.0 aperture. Both the phones are also capable of shooting 4K videos. OnePlus 3 performance quite well in the camera department but the actual performance can only be compared once we do the detailed review of the Z2 Plus.
Both the OnePlus 3 and the Lenovo Z2 Plus comes with 64GB internal storage with no memory card slot for expansion in both the cases. Both the phones also feature Dual SIM capabilities with Nano SIM slots. So it is a tie here.
Lenovo Z2 Plus features a larger battery despite being the smaller one between the two. The Z2 Plus sports a 3500 mAh battery, while the OnePlus 3 has a 3000 mAh unit. Evidently, the battery on Lenovo Z2 Plus will be better than OnePlus 3. But we should not forget that OnePlus 3 comes with Dash Charging technology which almost makes up for the smaller battery.
For connectivity, there is WiFi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac, Bluetooth, GPS, NFC and a USB Type-C connector for charging and data transfer.
Lenovo Z2 Plus is a serious competitor for OnePlus 3 and has all the ingredients to dethrone it as well. On paper, the Z2 Plus certainly offers better value for money. Whereas, one major factor in deciding between the two can be the screen size. The Z2 Plus will be ideal for people with small hands, While OnePlus 3 has a better user interface and RAM. The Z2 Plus sports a bigger battery on the other hand. It all comes down to personal preference as to which one is better for you and ofcourse it depends on your budget as there is a difference of atleast Rs 8,000 between the two. Also, the day-to-day performance of the Z2 Plus is yet to be tested so stay tuned for our detailed review of the same.
