Will Lenovo A6600 be able to dethrone the Redmi 3S?

Xiaomi pretty much nailed it with the Redmi 3S and 3S Prime last month. A lot of other manufacturers are now trying hard to dethrone the Redmi 3S. The latest being Lenovo, which just launched the A6600 in the Indian market this month for Rs 6,999 at which Redmi 3S is also selling.

So let's check out which of these two phones make a better value for money device at Rs 6,999.

Design and Display

The Lenovo A6600 hasn't been out in the market yet so we don't really know as to how it feels in the hand. Still from the images, it looks pretty decent and seems to have metal sides giving it a premium look. The display is a 5 inch IPS screen with a resolution of 720 pixels by 1280 pixels.

Whereas, the Redmi 3S even in this price bracket comes in metallic uni-body design giving a premium feel in hand. But, due to metallic built and finish the phone is quite slippery and you might need to put a case on to prevent occasional drops. It sports a 5.0 inch IPS LCD display with 1280 x 720 pixel resolution. Moreover it also has a finger print scanner at the back just where you're forehand rests and is fairly responsive.

Here the things get little bit different. The Lenovo A6600 is powered by 1GHz quad-core MediaTek MT6735P processor and 1GB of RAM. Yes we say 'only' because in today's date 1GB is just not acceptable even at this price. With the Redmi 3S you get the new Qualcomm Snapdragon 430 processor which is a Quad-core chipset clocked at 1.4 Ghz and for graphics here we get Adreno 505. You also get that standard 2GB RAM in the Redmi 3S. Clearly, Redmi 3S has begun to show up its beast specifications under this department. Other than that, both the phones run on Android 6.0 Marshmallow with their respective skins on top.

After the sudden disappearance of micro SD card in last few years, it is certainly back especially in the budget smartphone category. Both the devices comes with 16GB internal storage which is expandable up to 256GB in Redmi 3S and only up to 32GB in A6600 via micro SD card. Although both the devices have dual SIM capabilities, Redmi 3S comes with a hybrid SIM slot. Lenovo didn't release any information about the same so we assume that the A6600 must also have a hybrid slot.

On paper, Lenovo A6600 features an 8 megapixel primary rear-facing camera and a 2 megapixel front facing camera. On the other hand, Redmi 3S boasts a 13 megapixel primary camera (f/2.0) coupled with a 5 megapixel front facing camera (f/2.2) which we think can easily out do the sensor on the Lenovo A6600. We still have to wait and see the actual results but 2 megapixel front facing camera is like going back a couple of years.

Connectivity and Battery

Redmi 3S favourite department has to be the battery. The beast sports a 4100 mAh lithium-ion battery which users claim can last easily up to 2 days with moderate usage. While, Lenovo A6600 struggles here as well sporting a 2300 mAh battery.

Connectivity options on both the devices include WiFi, GPS, Bluetooth, FM, 3G, 4G and also VoLTE support is there for Reliance Jio users.

Wrapping Up

Apparently, Redmi 3S is ahead of the Lenovo A6600 in almost all the departments. Both the devices are prices at Rs 6,999 but availability is an issue with Redmi 3S which is only sold via flash sales on Flipkart. Otherwise, Redmi 3S is certainly a better device boasting much better specs and most likely end user experience as well.
