However, certain applications like Dropbox and Box allow users to share or sync almost any type of file between devices at the click of a button or by an automated action as well. Dropbox for instance is available on Symbian, iOS, BlackBerry and Android platforms, which could be why it is among the more popular file sharing services of its kind.
So here is how to set up sync between different devices using Dropbox for transferring contacts.
Make sure you are registered with Dropbox. You can do so at www.dropbox.com
To setup sync, the Dropbox application should be installed on both devices. Users can download the application from their app store and install it.
Once the installation is successful, open the applications menu on your device, locate the installed application and start it.
The application will prompt you to enter login details; once login is successful it will proceed to the home screen. On this page you will find default folders that are already added to the Dropbox account.
You can now access, modify or create folders from within the application by going to the setup menu, which comes up when you press the menu key while the application is open. Add the desired contacts and let the application sync data on the cloud.
Many devices, like Symbian smartphones, create individual contacts while Android uses a single contact file for syncing contacts. To know how to combine multiple contact files into one, you can refer to our article.
Once the contacts are synced by Dropbox, simply download the contact file on your device and use the default application to install the contact.
The sync is now set and works both ways, which means that any file, irrespective of which device it is added to, will automatically be copied to the other. You can add contacts to iOS and Windows powered devices as well. Even using a desktop you can sync contacts easily by adding contacts from applications like Outlook and Thunderbird to Dropbox.
You can also check the different devices linked to your account from the online control panel accessible at www.dropbox.com.
