Lenovo K6 Power vs Xiaomi Redmi 3S Prime : Can they get any closer?

Redmi 3S Prime is currently available at Rs 8,999 on Flipkart whereas K6 Power will be available from December 6 at 12 PM via Flipkart as well.

Lenovo unveiled its new budget smartphone – Lenovo K6 power at an event in Delhi and as soon as the price was revealed everyone had one thing in mind, we have a Redmi 3S Prime competitor. Now some argue that coming in at Rs 9,999, why don’t we compare it to the Redmi Note 3? Xiaomi’s Redmi Note 3 comes in the next category with a bigger screen and better inside. Whereas Redmi 3S Prime has been the king of sub 10K segment up till now. Can Lenovo K6 Power dethrone it? Let’s find out. Just so you know, Redmi 3S Prime is currently available at Rs 8,999 on Flipkart whereas K6 Power will be launched on December 6 at 12 PM via Flipkart as well.

Design and Display

Hitting the design element first, both the devices come with near-identical design elements. A metallic unibody design with a fingerprint scanner at the back, power and volume buttons on the right side. Overall, you can’t really choose between the two in terms of the design. However, if we have to nit-pick, we would go for Lenovo K6 Power just because how symmetrical the device looks from the back.

Xiaomi’s Redmi 3S Prime measures at 139.3 x 69.6 x 8.5 mm and weighs at 144 grams whereas the Lenovo K6 Power measures at 141.9 x 70.3 x 9.3 mm and weighs at 145 grams.

Coming to the display, Redmi 3S Prime comes with a 5-inch IPS display with 720 x 1280 resolution. On the other hand, Lenovo K6 Power comes with a 5-inch Full display (1080 x 1920 pixels) making it the of 441 ppi. Lenovo’s K6 Power surely takes this segment with a better resolution display at the same size. However, you won’t really notice the difference till you keep the two devices side by side.

Processor and Memory

Going underneath the hood, things doesn’t change much. Both the devices are powered by a 1.4 GHz Octa-Core Qualcomm Snapdragon 430 with Adreno 505 GPU. Both the devices also come with 3GB RAM and 32GB internal storage which is expandable up to 128GB via micro SD card. Both the phones also come with Dual hybrid SIM slots supporting micro SIM + Nano SIM on Redmi 3S Prime and Nano + Nano SIM on Lenovo K6 Power. Hybrid SIM slot means, you can either use two SIMs or one SIM and a micro SD card. Both the devices run on 6.0 Marshmallow with MIUI 8 on Redmi 3S Prime and Pure on Lenovo K6 Power. If you ask us, we would choose Lenovo’s Pure UI. Further, Lenovo included a bunch of new features in the Pure UI such as Long Screenshot, Dual-App, App-Lock, Fingerprint Selfie etc.

Camera

Coming to the camera, things remain close here as well. The camera on the Redmi 3S Prime is a 13-megapixel shooter at the back and 5 megapixels at front. The primary camera comes with 5P Lens elements, PDAF technology, and f/2.0 aperture. The front camera though comes with f/2.2 Aperture.

On the other hand, Lenovo K6 Power features a 13 Sony IMX258 sensor with PDAF, Manual Pro Mode, Slow Motion, and Time Lapse. On the front, there is an 8 megapixel Sony sensor as well.

It’s too early to compare these two smartphone cameras as we are yet to get the Lenovo K6 Power for testing. Meanwhile, you can check Redmi 3S Prime camera samples here.

Battery and Connectivity

The close contest extends to the battery department as well. The Redmi 3S Prime features a 4100 battery whereas the Lenovo K6 Power is powered by a 4000 mAh battery. In both the cases, the battery is non-removable. We would bet our money on the Redmi 3S Prime, given it has a 720p screen and slightly better battery capacity. However, we recommend you to wait for our detailed review of the Lenovo K6 Power to make the final call.

On the connectivity front, both the devices come with Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, v4.1 (v4.2 on K6 Power), GPS, micro USB 2.0 and thankfully a 3.5 mm jack. Redmi 3S Prime also features an blaster whereas Lenovo K6 Power supports USB OTG with reverse charging. With reverse charging, you can charge another device from the juice remaining on your Lenovo K6 Power.

Wrapping Up

Now the most important part, the verdict. These devices come way too closer to dig out a deciding factor. Yes, Lenovo K6 Power does have a better screen but it comes with that extra price. The Software can be a deciding factor for some. Whereas, camera test is still pending for the K6 Power which can be another deciding factor. One thing which we didn’t mention before was Lenovo’s implementation of dual backfiring speakers with Dolby Atmos. Still, is it worth that extra Rs 1,000? Well, it does. The performance is not likely to change but we feel that the Android experience on the Lenovo K6 Power will be a tad bit better with that clean UI with almost no bloatware. However, if you go for Redmi 3S Prime, there’s no wrong decision there as well.
